SSD and I helped Matt bring home his new baby. He got the bargain of the century Body work will come up pristine with a bit of attention. Restoring the mechanicals will just take a bit of time and money. the piccies contain a couple of the other two bikes he had for sale the Kwaka 550 is sold.

Job no 4
Remove tank and gizzard to inspect for pin holes

think I found the reason behind the loss of pressure

To much crud in the bottom of the tank to know if there is any pin holes from the decomposing  guts

A very big thanks to Klompy   Meet my new project 212902  for the advice to use M.E.K

It took me a little while to find this stuff in a small a quantity as the chemical sellers only wanted to sell it in 200lt batches
but it turns out to that Plumbers clear priming fluid is 80% MEK

The tanks has come up a treat on the bottom   but as you can see in the last photos there is still a lot of crap up on the topside of the tank

Maybe, maybe not.

I picked up a K1 about ten years ago.

A few years ago the few years ago the K1 forum moved to Facebook.

I don't do Facebook so am now a K1 outcast.

That does look like a nice specimen though and well worth the effort to bring it back from the dead. Best of luck in your endeavor.

Hello guys
Question for those with the 16v motor

I'm changing the external fuel lines over and I'm noticing that the short hose which runs from the pressure regulator between throttle body 1 and 2 and connects to the downward facing spigot on the fuel rail near injector one seems to kink slightly

while doing web searches on this I found a picture of part no 13 54 1 461 495 (Item 6 in the parts finch) it has a pre- formed set bend in the external line
I have tried to come in from the left or right and keep having the same issue with the kink

What other methods have people used ??
Has anyone managed to set a bend into a line ??

Nice project.
I restored a K1 a few years ago. If the mechanics is not a problem, the fairing is...many specific parts, some are very difficult to find, I had to search in flea markets in Germany, websites in Greece and eventually Japan for some parts!

Do secure the glovebox lids by a thin wire: the're not tightly adjusted and hey fly when you reach hi speed. Rare and expensive!

Another flaw is the front fender crackings appearing near the stanchion hole. Part too heavy and too thin...
 Meet my new project Fente
 Meet my new project Fente2

If it remains intact, glue another piece of plastic on the hidden face to reinforce it. If it's already cracked...same thing before the paint job. The fender was reinforced by the factory on the later models, that yours seem to be.
Use tyre soap to fit the fender in the rubber part.

Interesting. My 91 K1 has 80K+ miles on it and I always wondered why it never got the dreaded front fender crack.  Now I understand.

Thanks for the tip JBT
I will need to have a look at the front fender

Found out the hard way that with the bike on the table lift stand (front wheel chocked) that I could not get either side fairing panels off because of the front fender

Happy Eater Dai

They are allowed to be made but must be done by an authorised manufacture.

$400Au for all 6 lines all with new banjo and crush washers and postage

not cheap but the condition of the existing lines was disgusting.

I cut one open and managed to push a small plastic rod in up to the banjo and out came a string of congealed jelly.

That looks about the same price as here. Fortunately Nanny hasn't prevented me from making my own lines yet. She'd better keep her gob well shut too as I have quite a few metres of brake line and a box of fittings in the garage. One brakeline = approx 1/10th of buying the same line.
