Glad to have found this forum. Here's why.

About 25 or so years ago I bought my first Flying Brick, a K100RS. A great machine on which I did my first trip to John O'Groats from Derby (and back!) Long story short, I went from Helensburgh, to Inverness, John O'Groats, Bettyhill, Lairg, Stirling and back home, 900 miles in all on one ride, Saturday morning to very late Saturday night. Was walking a bit funny for a couple of days after that trip! That bike I nearly died riding after another visit to Scotland. On the way back, an 83 year old decided to drive out of a garden centre onto the A6 right in front of me. I lived, the bike didn't.

I owned another two K100Rt's after that before moving on from biking for a while. I started riding again and have recently acquired a 1993 K1100LT with 58,000 on the clock. Everything seems to work OK, screen, heated grips. speedo, etc. ABS removed. Love the bike, they're such a great ride. MPG is a bit low (about 42) so I'll be looking at that, which is how I found this forum. It still cracks me up that this bike, when fully loaded, has 11 locks! I only received one key with it but have managed to get another one cut. Only complaint, so far, is that the OEM top box. while much bigger than the old K100 version has been made just not quite big enough to take a helmet which is really annoying!

Welcome Shootist

When I first got my k100rt a few years ago it cracked me up that it had 13 locks. Which 11 do you have, you might be missing one.

It took me a while to realise a helmet fits in the side cases, just, I spose so it doesn't rattle.

Daveyson, the RS doesn't have the two fairing box locks.

Yeah not familiar with 1100, but ignition switch made me think no steering lock as Olaf notes, so I thought that might be 12, but Shootist counts 11 for an 1100lt?

I think there was a key for the alarm too, so if I had one, that would be 14 locks, and to think adding lightness was one of their goals.

My 35L top cases fit regular helmets. Do you have a modular(flip-face) helmet?    Modular helmets tend to be a bit larger than regular full face helmets.

Do you use an Arai helmet?

No. I have a problem with helmets, namely a bloody big head! I have an HJC 4XL!. Also a Nolan modular in 3XL that gave me migraines for the first few months I used it. Also a Nolan open face 3XL which also tortured me for a few months. When I went to J&S at Nottingham I couldn't find a single helmet, other than the HJC 4XL, in their whole massive range. The HJC is the only one that's really comfy but I'd prefer a flip front.

While I'm on the subject of helmets, it is a mystery to me why there are so few (hardly any) that are coloured in fluorescent red. There are plenty of helmets in high vis yellow but they do no stand out anywhere near as well as the red.
