I had been waiting eagerly for weeks for The One Show in Portland, OR to happen. I'd been to roughly half of them since the first, 14 years ago. I got the day off from the dealership to "work" the show. It has gotten a bit too big lately. Yep, confirmed that roughly half the bikes were just cut up, senseless wrecks of their former selves. I saw a lot of tough sticker-adorned hipsters, chain drive wallets & flannel shirts. The Miller High Life beer was overpriced - and in beer heaven, not a single microbrew in attendance - the fair food was quite average, the parking fees outrageous ($30.00 in a dusty lot against street parking at a meter for $3.70 just two blocks away), & the slow-motion Cossacks motorcycle stunt team should take a lesson in riding skill & overall entertainment from the madness that is the Isle of Man motorcycle stunt show. The ticket was $67.50 for the day, admittedly comped to me, & after four hours I was ready to go, the two & a bit hour slog north toward home a kind of relief. At least the sun had come out, finally, after all of this spring's rain. I applaud the efforts of the initiator of the event, Thor Drake of See See Motorcycles & Coffee, but will be giving it a rest from now on. This video sums the lower end of the 'scene' up quite well.

If you've seen one "highly original kustom K", you may have seen them all.

Resurrecting this humorous thread...but as it's often said, better to ask for forgiveness after the fact than to seek permission before.

I have had a love/hate relationship with Portland's The One Show for the half a dozen times (maybe more) that I've attended over the years - they're celebrating their fifteenth anniversary this year. I didn't catch the early years as I was living in Australia but when I returned to work here in 2012, there they were. Who doesn't love a motorcycle show that doesn't take itself too seriously!?

Fast forward to last year. I didn't love it. What better way to get over something than to dive in again. So I've volunteered. I attended the pre-show meeting last night down in Stumptown - Portland to some locals. From my home and back it was a four and a half hour return ride for an hour and fifteen minute meeting. Tomorrow I help set the show up starting before noon. If I cover two, four hour shifts I get a weekend pass for my effort. About 70 or 80 people attended the meeting. I'm packed and ready to go, staying overnight and working again for four hours on Friday morning. The show starts in the arvo on Friday but I'll be done with my obligation by then. The weather is trending warmer and dry the next several days.

Full report later on. Let's see how things go from the inside.
cheers

...and don't forget to watch Laitch's video post, #3. Portland gets more than a mention.

I just took another good look at the K - someone took the time to solve the seat/tank line problem and the front of the fuel tank, but then... look at the coil mounts (sigh).

All that work…yet leave the front brake master cylinder/reservoir…untouched.
I also wonder about keeping the passenger foot pegs. Would someone be mad enough to ride pillion, even if it just to the local cafe?

As for the neatly horizontal rear shock - fabulous for protection from being rear ended but can’t see how it is very effective at doing it’s proper job.
