Hi all -

Have a nice 1987 K100RS which came to me with the factory bags and mounting brackets, but not installed. I'm a little unclear as to how they mount up, and the fiche diagram from Bike Bandit doesn't help much. On the exhaust side, where does the bottom tab go - in front of the exhaust mount - behind it, or in the middle? And I got a couple of those ~1" bushings - part 153, but it doesn't look as if those are needed?

This may be a case where a picture is worth a thousand words - I've been Googling up images, but can't really locate a good one. I have a trip this weekend, before my Clymer manual will arrive, so I'm sort of stuck. Pics/descriptions appreciated!

Welcome, Kevin. The left hand side pannier mount goes between the footpeg mount and the exhaust hanger. You'll likely need two 6mmx40mm bolts which will slide through the bracket. I successfully use 'Nyloc' nuts at the other end. When mounting the pannier be sure to take note of the small plastic 'tab' on the bags which must clear the pannier mounts before sliding the panniers forward and clicking the front locking mechanism shut, otherwise it can be a struggle until you sort it out. It's not obvious but typical German function at its best. It works. Nice bike that clean K100RS, like mine, but in white. Is that one of Matt Capri's Luftmeister exhausts? I'll bet it adds a nice rumble.
Cheers.

As Today I was dismantling the K75 to replace the gearbox, I took pictures of the assembly:

Here is a top view on the muffler side.

Here is the other side

Hope this will help you.

Yeah, that makes sense... but that's not going to work on mine. Your second pic shows it best - *without* the bag mount in there, those bushings are the right length for the exhaust to mount up with the bracket. With the mount taking up room, using the stock spacer bushings puts a 1/2" gap between the muffler tab and the hanger bracket. May be because I have a Luftmeister exhaust instead of stock? Anyway, the answer for me will be to take out the stock spacer bushings and use washer stacks for spacing instead.

But thanks much, that at least confirms that I have the pieces in the right place!

This picture still has the bag mount installed. There is no extra spacer/bushing. The saddle bag holder is sandwiched between the foot peg holder and the muffler mount. On the K100 the muffler mount is a bit different but the installation for the bags is the same.
