When asking an experienced restorer here about servicing and cleaning of the injectors on my K75 he suggested I get these Bosch EV14 Multiport Injectors and not waste my money on servicing the old injectors. These also allegedly result in better performance and economy.

So I got a set from Powerbrick. So did my friend for his K100RS 8V.

The result is that both our machines do not idle at all, unless on the 2nd "choke" or fast idle setting. The K100 CO measurement went up from 2% to 12% +/-.

Bosch EV14 Multiport Injectors Bosch_10

Anybody with experience?

I tried them on my K100RS 16V. All ok just get the feeling it's performance is a bit sluggish. Not tested on a dyno, so subjective....  drunken Will have to check the fuel consumption.

I looked at the 4 hole injectors 20 plus years ago. A mates son who was a injector specialist told me not to waste my money. The one hole OEM injectors are designed to spray onto the back of the inlet valve breaking up the fuel and cooling the valve. If the 4 hole injectors are so superior to the one hole ones why is there no Dyno comparisons by the companies selling them, I have looked. I'd love to see an actual unbiased dyno comparison by anyone. Riders reporting improvements are possibly comparing dirty one hole injectors to new 4 hole injectors, so they may be feeling an improvement. However they may have felt the same improvement if not better by servicing their OEM injectors. I tried getting mine serviced twice with no improvement and resorted to building my own test rig and buying a Ultra Sonic cleaner, this did improve my injectors heaps. I've also seen a few reports on 4 holes increasing fuel consumption with no performance increases or detrimental to performance.
Regards Martin.

I've tried them in both a K75 & K1100. Didn't notice any difference. Ever since I prefer to get the stock ones serviced.

Thanks Martin and Duck. Over the years I have noticed also that in the end the original item is normally better. In my case, I also need a set of new injectors for another 75 I want to get to life again.

In the mean time the supplier has come back to me and established that they sent us the 1100 injectors instead of the K75 and K100 2V injectors.  Mad  So we'll probably exchange them.

The other thing about 4 hole injectors are that the holes are smaller than the one hole so they would be more prone to blocking.  After I got my injectors clean and functioning every six to twelve months I used to run a bottle of Caltex Techron through the system. Unfortunately Techron doesn't seem to be available in Oz anymore and I have switched to Lucas fuel system cleaner, which seems to work. There are companies that will clean and refurbish your current injectors, I don't know whether you can have them done locally.
Regards Martin.

Ha ha thanks, ok I am also learning! We have 93ULP (Fore the highveld) and 95ULP (for lowveld i.e. coastal) petrol here, so I don't know where E5 fits in but I would assume it's the same as our 95ULP. (95 Octane Unleaded Petrol)

E5 is for 5% ethanol content. K bikes don't really like it and the E10 is worse.

If your unleaded is ethanol free even better, but we can't get ethanol free petrol here.

But whichever petrol you use a litre of diesel seems to do wonders.

Rolf,

In the Western world's big thrust to make itself environmentally friendly and to feel good about itself, the powers to be decided to introduce Ethanol to fuel to reduce emissions, or somewhat.  We have E10 as an option at the bowser which is 10% ethanol.  Initially it was meant to be cheaper but that is not really the case now and we still have an option to buy either here.  E10 is suitable for modern day vehicles but no so for our older vehicles.

The general rule of thumb is that with our K bikes, if you ride regularly and burn through the E10 fuel, then that is not a problem.  However if the K Bike sits for a prolonged period of time, then the ethanol component can attack various rubbery bits that have contact with the fuel and so we see swelling of components in the fuel tank if left for a while.

As you reside in a third world country nowadays you may not be subject to the same environmental standards as we are, so it is probably not of a concern for you.  I remember when ZA was still a first world nation and that awful smelly stinky fuel that SASOL used to brew whilst riding there.  Then again, I don't know what the current quality of your fuel is there but at least you can still ride.

I expect the 93ULP is for the altitude change on the Highveld in Transvaal and OFS.  Do you know whether the DJ Trial (or was it JD) is still going or is it long gone, as the dilemma used to be at what altitude due you tune the carburettor for?

It's not the E10. It's the water it absorbs from the atmosphere. I let my K1100LT sit for 6 years with half a tank of E10 in it and it still runs fine with a good fuel pump/dampers and no tank leaks. However, I have a dehumidifier in my garage to keep the relative humidity at 50 or below.

TacKler, you are right about the altitude but SASOL have upped their game to point of not noticing the difference between coal petrol and crude oil petrol. Most of our fuel is imported now and I doubt very much that there is ethanol present.

You'll either have to refresh my memory or excuse my ignorance but what is the DJ Trial about. I can remember the problems we had with the initial SASOL fuel but that has blown over long ago.

There is another (idling) issue on my K75 I'll need to post on the forum. That will be a new post.

Greetings Rolf

Rolf,

My first trip over there we rode from Jo'burg to the Cape and back along the coast road to Plett where we stayed with my mate's Aunt.  On a day trip to Knysna we suffered a silent ambush from rocks on the road and put both bikes in the back of a Bakkie to get home, as his was damaged.  My mate from high school had an XJ650 and I was on his brother's GS400 as he wouldn't let me borrow the GS1000S.  His father, whom I knew from their days in Oz had a R100 and I remember him discussing the DJ animatedly one time.  I think he was considering entering.  I'm very glad to see the event still alive.

I went back a few times mainly for the game parks and did a bit of riding then as well.  My mate now resides in the UK and I'm full aware of how your country has deteriorated.  I can't see myself ever returning due to that.

Many happy memories of SA when it was still a great place.  I've also visited Botswana and Zim including Vic Falls twice.

Another member on this forum has spent time there and departed Durban by yacht.  He'll pipe up if he likes.

Thanks for the reference Laitch.

Good to read some personal stories of you having been here and Rick's exodus from Durban. Yes our beloved country has changed a lot from the days that people rode Yamaha XJ650s and Suzuki GS400s. I did that trip in 1977 on a Honda CB350 with my friend on pillion. We continued all the way through the Transkai and then up the Zululand north coast. Sleeping here and there in the bush or on the beach.

We nearly ended up in Oz like so many South Africans. In 2000 we were there. I had obtained permanent residence on a business visa. We liked it a lot spending time on the Sunshine and Gold coast, Cairns, Melbourne and a short stay in Sydney. We did the great south road on a tour. Very impressive just as stunning as our coastline. Finally, we decided to stay in SA which I do not regret.

Our country has changed a lot in many ways to the better but then on the other hand, like you say, third world now. But I think (hope) we have turned a corner, but it will still take a lot of time to restore the mess. Having said that, this country will remain an African country. That will not change. But when I see what is happening in the 1st world West and how those countries have also degraded, overrun by immigrants and being over regulated, I am glad to be here.

Some pics we took when I flew down to Cape Town to collect the K75s. The tall man is my nephew and the seller got rid of other bike gear that I ,“African way” managed to take back home with me.   Laughing

And then Glenn, thanks for the link. I got the injectors done here and the bike is running well now!!

Laitch certainly has a good internet connection which he does not let go to waste!!

Big thumb

It's quite possible that I have ridden those same roads.

I have a photo of me sitting on the edge of the Cape looking down showing the water and my boots (and another with the same boots on the ramp of a CH-47).  We rode to Cape Aghulus to ensure we actually reached the southern most tip.  One day I hope to ride to Nord Cap but with a different set of boots.
