K1100LT - rear speaker cable routing Img_8710Hi Team,

Finally a bit of progress on the rebuild of my K1100LT. Starting to put bits back on the bike.
Also sourced a new (but retro) radio and 4 new speakers, to keep it all in style.
Question. The cable and plug that goes to the top box, how is that routed in the tail of the bike. Especially where/how does it leave the tail and when the top box isn’t fitted, where does that cable go? (I need to make a new cable look, and have no idea how the origin was routed, as it wasn’t on the bike when I bought it)

I removed it from my K1100LT. It was routed to the rear on the left hand side frame member, from under the tank all the way to the rear, but then emerged and ran along the arm of the rear carrier to underneath the top box, cable tied on, but underneath the duck tail and not inside it. No photos of it now. It ends in a plug with a screw cap so you can disconnect it and remove the top box.

Thanks Olaf, under frame to about where the connector connects into top box and cable tied to frame. Roger that. (Not the most elegant solution from them - but feasible. Will find a way to hide / tie it to the pannier or top box carrier frame . Thx !

It was actually very neatly fitted. It was on the inside face tightly cable tied on and then it was quite discreet along the carrier frame. Don't attach to the Z pannier frame. I wanted the weight off the bike and also wanted the storage space in the left fairing pocket. That cable also has the power supply for a vanity light and mirror unit inside the top box.

Assume that light was/is in the lid, embedded in the gray fabric cover. I don’t have that, so no light. Did think (and my new plug, as I could not find existing plug locally) has option for me to add power, but I’m not sure if I would add. If I need to charge things I can do that in the front storage compartiment & for light I can just use a flashlight.
If the cover with light would still be there I def would reinstate.
Or maybe I should just route the wires anyway and decide later. Hmmm. Thx mate !

The K1100LT box has a carpet liner, a vanity mirror and light and document net on the underside of the lid. You will see a cable entry point in the top box moulding.

Morning all.

So did build the cable loom with new plug and routed that nicely to the rear of the bike. Currently with a cable tie to the frame under seat, but once needed can move it back and connect it to top box.

With that out of the way, I could fit some more plastic to the bike. At that time I was surprised to find a bit of foam that was meant to sit between airbox and tb’s.. so few hours later and a new breather hose, that’s now in as well.

Follow up question from the top box.
There are two little leaf springs on the handle mechanism. These were (and are) broken in half. They seem to be to hold the handle down, and as such the locking mechanism closed ?

Any idea if these little springs are available, or, creative ideas to replace or put another spring in place to archive similar ?

One more question. Were there different frame versions between the 1100LT and 1100LT Touring? I do have fairing sides (under seat) covers from a Touring that have the push in tabs at a different location than the original sides have ?

Last question - how do I rename this thread and potentially move it to the renovation section ? Might make more sense there !
