Hey all,
I picked up a K100LT down the street that sat since 2012.  Its got 38K miles on it.  My thoughts are to get it running and riding the piss out of it.  Time will tell.

Once you get it running.......they are unburstable.

Nice one but start a thread for it. There are things you need to know even before you try to start it.

Thanks for the heads up.  It may take more time figuring out this forum than getting the bike running.   Very Happy

hello pdqrunner
1987 K100Lt garage find 177912

A motorcycle sitting around for years - even in a cool and dry place - does not stop the ageing of various materials found in our bricks.
Be prepared to have to change more parts that you may have thought of in the first place.
BTDT.

Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up.  I figure I'm going to pull it down and expose the outer working of the bike.  I only found one mouse nest on the top of the brick, and some deterioration of some rubber seals.  Of course the tires look great but are toast.  The steering stem bearing are like a rusty ratchet.
Curiosity got the best of me and after an oil change and a new battery the bike just fired and died.  I'm going to work through it this winter and see what I find'
Thanks

That's probably now drawn crap into the injectors. Very important to resist that temptation.

You will need to replace the
inside tank fuel lines
inside tank fuel pump damper
inside tank fuel pump mounting
inside tank fuel filter
fuel pump advisable too, so now.
clean the inside of the tank.

outside tank fuel lines
vacuum caps
vacuum pipe from  throttle body no 4 to the fuel pressure regulator.
crankcase vent 'Z' pipe.

At this point also clean the injectors. You will need new o rings for them, 2 per injector but a few spares.

That lot wont set you back huge money.

But having said that, that lot gets you going.

But you also have to look at stopping the beast.
I ended up replacing
brakes front and rear master cylinders
brake lines.
brake pads
tyres

Mine had sat for 17 years.
