Hello all,
First post, first question, I have what appears to be a sticking throttle cable on the 1992 k100 rs 16v.
Basically removed the parts of the throttle grip to get to the cable boot end in order to see if the problem is a sticky handle, and I can feel the same jam point when I manually pull the disconnected cable end by hand, that I can through the throttle movement when all connected up.
The throttle body movement by itself is crisp and snaps back.
So in order to replace this cable, in a nutshell does the tank and the LHS fairing cover need to be pulled off??
Thanks

You might be able to attach a new cable to the old and pull it through, but you'd still need to investigate what's causing it to bind, and have access to the TB end to disconnect the "barrel" of the old cable and connect the new cable.

No need for tank removal.

Disconnect the cable at the throttle bodies. Tie a wire/strong sting to the throttle end of the cable.. Pull that wire/string through with the old cable and then use it to pull the new cable through.

I think you're saying there is free movement at both ends. So it seems like just the cable itself, a build up of gunk between the outer and inner cables. You might not have to replace it, it might free up by just cleaning it. Use a Teflon safe cleaner like Triflo. Spray, twist, spray, twist, again, and again, and again. That might free it up.

Check where the cable turns under the headstock from the handlebars. If it hasn't been routed correctly then it may have split and that's your jam point.

Ok thanks to all for the prompt response, yes certainly worth trying some lubrification prior to a change out. Will check the routing as well. And eventual using old to pull through new makes perfect sense.
Cheers
