Does anyone know the load capacity (weight) of a Type 1 and ‘85 frame?
Done my homewrk but it eludes me.

If you get really lucky the orange weight vs. speed sticker is still on the inside of the pannier lid. Only ever seen one...

... and I totally ignored it anyway Type 1 pannier load 44271

Was considering a relocate of the car battery to give me more sleeping space in the chair, but the weights are off
 BAlance

Does anyone consistently and safely run around 12kg in a single pannier?

Stick the battery in it and tie the bugger on. Ain't no balance problem - it's a chair innit?

Should I feel any embarrassment at routinely loading 15kg/30+ lbs in each side when maxi-touring, cross continent?

I was concerned only about the weight, just couldn’t ignore that gift of a gif.

I too come from the camp of as much crap as you can jam in it. Also i put a rok strap a round the whole works to avoid losing a bag or the contents.

On a side note I also have several liners so pack my stuff in them and normally keep a set packed and ready to go. Well went on a trip with my brother and a friend and didn't even ask my wife if she wanted to go. So when I called her to let her know i was alright and stopping for the night (someplace in up state NY) she informed me that she was not pleased that I left my dirty stuff in a bag at the bottom of the stairs....sure enough my wardrobe for that trip was all souvenir tees and sweats.
