I need to replace the 2 pin plug that goes in the back of the alternator. Looks like it is considered part of the harness so I can't find a part number for it.

Does anyone know if there is a part number or an off the shelf connector that fits well?

Depending on the problem you have, there's two solutions.

- If the plug is okay but the terminals are corroded, check the front of the plug. There should be a small recess next to each terminal; slide a thin piece of steel in there and give it a good wiggle to depress the terminal latch. The terminals should just pull out after that. Replacements are easy to find but be certain you buy the ones with a latch on them

- If the connector housing is damaged, crimp on two separate non-latch terminals complete with the insulated covers.

Both types should be easily available at an electronics shop or on Ebay/AliExpress.

If the red cable to the alternator is badly corroded to the point where you can't strip it back to good clean copper before crimping on new terminals, cut it right back to where it enters the wiring loom and insulate it properly with self-amalgamating tape. It forms a Y-joint at this point which goes to the battery, so you will need to make a new red cable that goes directly from the battery to the alternator. You'll then have two connections on the battery.

I've employed all the above fixes/bodges at some time or another and not had any problems.

Perfect, thanks Dai.

I will try 1 but suspect the plug is too far gone. But 2 is an easy alternative.

Visit an auto-electrician repair shop where starters and alternators are rebuilt. This connector is quite common throughout Bosch's early line of alternators. There might just be a known good spare lying about.
