Anyone have any tips or tricks to deal with the heat from the engine?

It's tolerable except on really hot days.

Also any tips on cleaning the aluminum parts that have gotten mottled?

This has been discussed first check that all of the insulation bits around the engine are in place often bits can be missing! Then go through and seal them better to the engine and fairing to force the air to vent through the fairing vents.

Which aluminium bits are mottled?
Has your fairing still got the rubber in-fills around the forks? They can be removed to allow more air to flow through in hot weather.

The area around the forks is open.

It's my first RT. I had a standard K100 with a bar mounted BMW fairing
before this one.

Is there something that fits in that fork area?

Also the aluminum alloy on the engine and drive areas has that
mild corrosion look.
Not bad but need to be cleaned.
I believe this bike lived in Florida and got some salt air on it.
Good running bike 18K miles.
I just want to get the cosmetics better.

soapy water and the good old scrubbing brush seems to work ok ....for a start ....but i had to get into mine with a stainless steel dish pad to get some of the discolouration out and expose some new metal.

doing some research into heat an cooling effects on my rt as i go along, a couple of ideas im working on.

As Crazy Frog predicted, I have the answer to your questions about heat problems on the K100.

I posted an article in the How-to section on K-bike Heat Managment which points to a document in the download section of this site. The documentdescribes various methods for taming the enormous amnount of heat that is generated by the engine causing general rider discomfort in the warm summer season. Download the document and read about the various solutions, such as new fans, insulation, Jerry Blankets, hose routing, and so on.

Thanks,
It gives me good info try.

I'll let you know how it works.

P.S. I was told by a local BMW tech that aluminum cleaner that has Phosphoric Acid in it will help clean the aluminum alloy parts of the engine.
I found a gel in the local hardware store that I will try.
