This is a long story, but to get to the point, I have upgraded to a 2005 K1200LT and the 1988 K100RT will be sold. Note that I have not moved away from either the water cooled engine or the configuration of crankshaft in line with the frame.

However, in moving on, my recently acquired Motad silencer is for sale, in unmarked condition as new, with approximately 2400 Km's having been travelled since it was installed a month ago. I have been more than happy with the silencer, but intend to sell it separately from the bike.
Please PM me for details and price, or I can be contacted on 0428383676. The K100RT is also for sale.

Best regards, Dennis

Good luck with your K12LT. They are a sweet-handling machine for a big bike. I rode the boss's LT over a long weekend a coupla years back after riding a K1200S as my prime machine. I came back with a Cheshire cat grin and said when I was asked how I liked it...'She's a big girl but she can dance!' I had Bob Marley cranking on the stereo over the Cascades of central Washington state and heeled over I didn't drag a floorboard or touch down the exhaust!

I can vouch for the quality of the Motad exhaust. Someone should grab it. They'll not be disappointed.

I hope this doesn't mean that you'll be gone from the forum, Dennis. Stop in and give us a hoi now and again. We've gotta do a Summertime Tassie K-Bike meet some time.

Thanks TWB, and no, I don't intend to leave the forum as my interest in in all things K, and if I can impart some knowledge or assist someone to overcome a problem then all the better.
I now need to "re-learn" all the maintenance aspects of the K12. It really is a splendid thing (IMO), just what we need comfort-wise, and not too sluggish either, but a big sucker. We intend to cross the Nullarbor next September.
2 questions for anyone with experience -
1. Is there any clutch weakness in the K1200LT (2005) ?
2. Is gearbox input shaft spline re-lube still a major maintenance requirement ?

I've begun trawling through all the internet stuff, but to be honest, I'm struggling to find a forum as direct and informative as this one.

Regards, Dennis

Hi Dennis. Nice buy. I fancied one but think it would be a bit of a handful for me.
When I was checking them out on-line, I believe there had been some problems with the clutch slave cylinder leaking and contaminating the clutch plates.
Although I believe there is a mod to prevent it from contamination if it does leak. There was also talk about final drive(FD) failures which seemed to affect about 10% of LT's at that time.
The good news is that these problems seemed to apply to models older than yours. Pre 2003 I think.
TWB may have more info.
Health to enjoy!
