My pannier lid came away this morning as I tried to close it.pannier hinge...Kaput! 178468 It has split along the bottom "hinge" which looks like it could be replaced. Can replacements be got for these? If not has anybody effected a repair using something else?

On the subject of Panniers also should there be a rubber or weather seal in the groove into which the outer lid sits?

Thanks in anticiaption of responses.

I don't think there is any kind of weather seal originally in the seam between the two halves. I get a small amount of water inside mine at times but it's tolerable.

Number 1 x 2 per pannier. Part number 46 54 2 300 039. Buy spares. They're cheap.

I got my hinges and gaskets in the post today from motorworks, and in a few minutes I had working panniers again.

After fitting the gasket I find the top front corner of either case gapes a little bit. Given the amount of rain we get in the Emerald Isle I'd like them to close a little better. Can the latches be adjusted (I put a little of the gasket under the latch to try to wedge it a bit tighter but still not entirely happy.)

Piccy...

maybe not closed tight ...but much better .....i relocated the outer clip and rivetted it in place . they held the rain out completly durring several hundred ks of travel in the rain .

the po had bolted them in place i guess after an earlier adjustment .

Im not sure why but when I lock the latch it pulls the lid in closer
but I'll leave it this way incase if I adjust it to be tight when closing I
may not be able to lock them or when trying to unlock breaking the key

yes the locks wear toto ......and by locking the latch the cam action actually holds the lock closed better ....and less stress on the other parts too .

my bottom frame latches were in a terrible state and locking them was the only way to keep them from undoing themselves with the wind vibration and all whilst travelling .

i have since purchased some newer style latches (with the ignition type key core ) and intend to fit them up as soon as i can get to them .

just a note 88 .......you dont have to use the same hole locations on the metal clip ....which will make it much easier to mount up ....and get away from the already drilled plastic lid....use some common sence and all will be good .
