I had a flat out at friend's cottage and I had no tools, new lady was not looking too pleased at prospect of sitting around waiting for me to figure out where we went from there, sun hot, sweat pouring down...so I left it, we all hopped in truck with friend and drove back to city (without taking a look at the assembly)... But when I go back out and have to remove tire (assuming a plug doesn't work) I understand there are 4 bolts that have to be removed. So does anyone know for sure that's all, and that they're bolts, not screws, and if so what size wrenches (or Allen keys or screwdrivers) I need to take out with me to do the removal?

The four bolts are 17mm and that is all that attaches the wheel. It is possible there is a fifth 17mm bolt in the center of the four but unlikely.
Also remove the rear section of the rear fender, two plillips No2 screws below the taillight and 2 x 10mm nuts inside the ductail that will allow the rear section to come off and that makes the wheel easy to get out. You can also lean it over to about 45deg on the center stand instead of removing the fender.

And BTW welcome to the forum.

You'll need to remove the center cap first, use a flat blade screwdriver to pry it out (after you remove the panniers). Look for a couple of grooved areas that will allow the screwdriver in. You'll want to get this all done before the legendary Manitoba flies carry it off.

Hey ColinM. Mine has wing-nuts to remove the back mudguard, they are under the rubber mat in the rear section behind seat. Also helps to have someone stand on the brake pedal while you loosen the wheel nuts. Surprisingly easy to get wheel off with mudguard/numberplate off. Cheers and good luck

or just put the bike "in first gear " when trying to undo the lugs ..... beats trying to find someone available "right now "

For lazy people. You can pull the wheel out without removing the rear section if one person rocks the bike over to the right on the centre stand while the other pulls the wheel out. It what wives are for!

Ah then comes the "do I have to hold it over like this till you fix the tyre" yes dear can you ballance it ok (keeps them out of your way)

I was expecting a bit of a whipping for ignoring Motorcycling 101 - (1) never leave home without your tools and flat fix kit (2) always imagine the worst is going to happen to YOU not everyone else in the world (3) classic iron has a certain panache but there is price to be paid as well in knowing your ride and being ready for it when it gets cranky...
Ordinarily I never go on trip without tools but because it was just 150k each way I figured no need to get over-prepared (and besides was busy scrambling to get gear together for the lady)
The irony of this is that the flat was only the 2nd problem of the day - had to pull over once when clutch cable popped out of hand lever and fix that (again a challenge with no tools but that's what keys are for) and I was so busy congratulating myself for having escaped that one without too much time on the shoulder of road...only to be felled by the tire - which kinda sucks because it's relatively new and I haven't had flat trouble since my 650 Yammie took me down on the East Coast about 4 times in a row before I figured out one of the spokes was coming through rim...
And the clutch cable thing is also my own fault because I guy on a forum last year told me to secure that with a screw & washer assembly to keep it from chafing and busting again (and I didn't get around to that either)...
But I know when I grow up I'll be way smarter...lol...Friday was 58th so clearly time is not on my side...

Another way to get the tyre out the back without an assistant is to back it up to a tallish kerb (curb, for you North Americans) with the front end to the footpath (sidewalk, for you North Americans) and place it on the centrestand with the tyre over the gutter. It'll come right out the bottom if the gap is high enough. I have had some solo experience with this emergency technique.

same as around here in summer months club_c ......and the further north, they seem more terrorizing ....i was in townsville on that big mountain (castle hill )a year or so ago ... and couldnt find a place they they couldnt get .....this is right in the middle of a outbreak of a dengi fever ...carried by those same mozzies ....scarey stuff

interesting fact i found ...they are attracted by darker materials (clothing ) my observations were on this guys back there was only about 10- 20 (white shirt ) the other guy had 50 + (black shirt)

Could be that darker materials convert a higher percentage of light into heat and mozzies generally alight on warmer areas...they are seeking blood, which is warm, afterall.

(Motorbike content) I know I get a bit warmer removing a tyre from a wheel than I do removing a wheel and tyre from a bike.
