I can't find any reference to these, but I'm sure some of you have fitted them.
For those that don't know, CPC fuel line connectors are a quick release fitting with a valve in each section. Both valves are opened when the two parts are clipped together.
I found out about them a couple of years ago, bought some and today I got round to fitting them.
The pressure feed fuel line connector is straightforward to fit, just cut a section out of the pipe and insert the connector.
The return feed is rather trickier as the fuel line is hidden behind the airbox and butterfly housings. To get round this I bought a connector with a 1/4 BSP thread on the end, drilled out and tapped the ball valve fitting in the tank to suit. (This method will only work if your tank has that fitting). The result is that the connector protrudes no further than the original fitting.
It is very tight in that area but all that was required was to re-route the fuel line below the radiator top hose.

The advantage is ,of course, that the tank can be removed much easier; this morning, for instance, I couldn't get the feed line off the tank pipe and had to resort to cutting through the rubber.
Tomorrow I might take my tank off........just because I can. Fuel line connectors. 723598

Close to similar quick couplings is also avialable as a genuine part.
I think BMW start to use them ~when the K12 was introduced.

This is what BMW have had for some time now on the GS Oilheads and early K1200 series, as Inge mentioned, although the original plastic male end has been replaced by a metal version, as the plastic bit was prone to breakage. There are heaps of good aftermarket versions but be sure you get the sort that hold the fuel back, since the fuel is under pressure, otherwise a direct spray in the eyeball like a firey squirt of lemon is possibly yours to enjoy.

If you have the space, and I think you do, the brand you need is CPC, type is chrome plated brass, not cast zinc. These are the direct replacement for the plastic items fitted to the K12's. They come with viton O rings and screw type hose clamps as well as 2 spare O rings. AU$75 from Beemerboneyard in the states, I just bought a set, theyre great, nice quality. Hope this helps, Dennis

As TWB says in his post above, the plastic fittings are easily broken!

Last week while re-fitting my tank, I heard a 'click' after which I could smell petrol. Sure enough the CPC plastic fitting had broken, so it was time to replace it with a chromed brass fitting.

Looking at the broken sleeve, it can be seen that the wall thickness is only 31 thou (0.80mm) affraid  so it's not surprising that they break when subject to a side load.

Incidentally, as the brass and plastic fittings are interchangeable, when I replace the fitting on the solo I only really need to buy the brass male part.

So the moral of this story is 'Don't buy the cheaper plastic fittings'..... It's still the best way to make the tank QD though.

Paul.

The GS was what started the conversation off as I was having coffee at my friends place and he had a GS apart and those fittings were on the fuel lines. I didn't investigate any more at the time as I wasn't sure if the GS used the same 13/8 fuel lines as the K. However I suspect the parts are shared.

I have to work out for now which is easier, having longer fuel lines which allow me access most things under the tank [air filter, electrics, rad cap, earths etc]  without disconnecting the fuel lines, or go the quick release route and simply unclip the tank for everything.  Due to the curve in the fuel lines because of them being longer I don't think fitting these is an option unless I bring the pipes back near the original lengths.

Brass is definitely better than plastic but needs to be insulated from the heat of the radiator.

Hi mate, I put these so called cheap plastic clips on my RT about 2 years ago, before the earlier warning was
published. I seem to have to take my tank off/up a lot as I continue my replacement regime, and have found these clips a godsend. I replaced my return line and made it about 3 inches longer as it was ridiculously exactly the right length, and the fuel rail line is also a bit longer. They really have worked well for me.
There is a danger that if they are not clipped in EXACTLY, they pop off. I've only done this once, the return line came undone at a roundabout and fuel pissed down all over my left boot. You should have seen me move when I finally found a spot to pull over. No harm done, clean boot, clean valve cover and clean undies when  I got home.
