VW Polo and a K frame VW%252520K

This is a 3 cylinder diesel vw polo unit mounted in our K frame.

Food for thought? Anyone know of it and how it may perform?

Wicked ! I bet it even sounds OK. 10 more years and I reckon that type of thing will be in production. Diesel technology is now racing forward, literally. Hybrid will always present too much risk to the owner (IMO), let alone the second hand market.

Thanks for the info; is it the Lupo unit and not the Polo then? What is the difference?

I doubt there is a difference - the Lupo is a tiny car, the Polo is a small car. El Wiki only lists two 3-cylinder diesels from VW - 1.2 and 1.4L, used in both cars among others. THe VW group is huge, and shares its technology freely between VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Volkswagen_Group_diesel_engines

But check out the power output: The K100 was rated at about 90hp and 86Nm - the best application of the 1.4 diesel is 90hp and 230Nm. Oooooh, yeeeeah! And it'd probably drink about half the juice doing it, as well.
