Exclamation I need your help guys, how do i remove fuel cap with the key barrel broken?

This is a barn find last ran in 2003, it has been wrapped up and is in good nick, but corrsion has set in on the fuel cap and it has rotted the barrel. I have another fuel cap on it's way. But how do I remove the old one.

Thanks in advance

Is the key broken off in the lock Andy? If so drilling it out looks like the way forward. Don't worry the dwarf won't get in the tank as the barrel goes into a plastic cap. I have one out in the workshop I'll get a measurement and post it up later so you'll know how far in to drill if you have to. If you have a spare key you can try getting the bit out with a variety of small tools or a magnet.

It's a bit brutal but if the key is broken off all the way into the lock you could use a flat headed screwdriver and tap it in then turn it and it may just pop!

Or it may cause more problems..... if you have a mig welder to hand potentially you could weld the screwdriver to it and turn it....

Or if your lucky you could use some quick drying super-glue.... not to much or you will glue the lock...

Nope that is not the problem, the barrel has sheered off so its pull out all together and I cant decide if to drill it out or lever it> Shocked Shocked Shocked

Bugger! Wish I'd seen this sooner, I may have been able to save you a bit of trouble. Exact same thing happened to Bro-in-law's K100, he was able to get a small pair of needlenose pliers down the hole where the barrel came out, engage the broken off tabs and turn them to unlock.

Cheers
JM
