Howdy,

New K owner here. Just bought my bike a few weeks ago. Looks great! Heavy bugger.

I'm doing some general repairs myself (I'm a novice at best) and I have one speaker that isn't working. Anyone had success in repairing one themselves? Any advice before I start taking things apart?

replacement would seem the sensible option georgiak

but check for corrosion around the speaker terminals etc

look for pollypropolene or mylar type speakers with rubber surrounds not foam as they are more or less open to the weather all the time ...could i also suggest some form of conformal coating over the rear side speaker mechanics .....(copper going to the speaker cone from the rear....around the spider (speaker positoning diaghram) and terminals )) maybe silicon spray ?

removal of the screen fasteners etc will allow access to the dress area of the internal dash ...just be carefull pulling out the dress plastic ..it tends to get brittle with age

good luck and welcome to the forum

Also, I'm looking at putting a Cobra CPI 480 on board to charge a laptop, a phone, a camera battery, and a gps during an upcoming transcontinental US trip. Just wondering if anyone has had experience using inverters and if they effect bike performance at all.

just be aware of the current draw from the battery whilst it is sitting and in this case charging/powering your devices .

the battery is not small but is still vulnerable to over discharge

the k bike has issues when cranking on low battery voltages ...the starter relay is the possible problem child with contact welding not an unknown condition

Welcome GeorgiaK. Stick up an intro in the members introduction area as is the practice and custom on the forum. Good advice from Charlie on the speakers. With ferard to the inverter you need to be able to shut off the supply from the battery when not in use and I wouldn't be using one without the engine running. Remeber an iverter is drawing current even when nothing is plugged into it.

Great advice, thanks! I definitely only plan to run the inverter while riding. I just put a new Odyssey battery in and I don't want to kill that sucker.

I'll keep you updated on the speaker repair.

Just dig out some foam from the helmet, to get the space needed.
And let there be rock.
