big wet here 200mm over last 24 hours, garage 250mm deep, rode the k100 out drippy, but to say she was watercooled was an understatement.

My theory is that Dai is right and Moses together with the translators of Deuteronomy got it wrong. Moses should have been overlooking Llanaan   (only people who can pronounce Welsh names need not look confused)!

sheesh ...wonder what the original inhabitants thought when these "white fellas" "moved in"

no knowledge of the bible ...or even English language I guess ...I really should look up the origin or real indigenous language name for the place that we call Mount Nebo these days  

but so far as I have found no real resolution ...other than several tribes occupied the area ...possibly at the same times ...or a crossover point  because of its flora and fauna and cultural significance ..

been a while since posting here ...

thought to post up some pics of a sort of an usual track  that I have neglected for quite some time

the day was bright and sunny ...although the overnight temps were kinda low for us on the coastal strip ...

about 7.00am and still about 10 c    and ready to be off

a bit further down the road ..the valley opens up ...this is above  the lynches creek turnoff ...or to the travelling guys ...the LIONS ROAD ..another track over the border ranges back into queensland ...for me I remember it being mostly dirt ...nowadays all tar ...which I have slammed good and proper a few times on the old girl ...



destination achieved   my mums place in the semi coastal regions ...some roses enjoying the sunshine ...like me


 
a little later ...down to the coast  and a place blakey ,twb , and I have stopped on previous excursions ...the lookout above Byron bay

at the apex of the border crossing at numinbar ..this time looking south .... the local police prevented any further travelling along the route ...so back down through Chillingham and up the highway route ...booring ... but still part of the trip

what a surprise ...traffic as thick as flies around a dead dingo

happens this time of day ...almost everywhere around the globe ...weekend convergence of traffic after a beautiful weekend


finally at home with many stops along the path with gerty achieving that reliable sewing machine hum as pace was quickened closer towards the 5 k region along the track   

a modest days ride ....very much enjoyed ...and left wondering why I haven't been out so often of late .....but I guess there have been many mechanical nightmares attempted and achieved in between ....






wouldn't be dead for quids ....!!!

Nice ride there charlie. There are some really scenic meandering roads all around that area from west of Byron (I've flown model gliders off that hill overlooking Byron) up thru Mullum and M'bah up to the Border ranges and beyond. My favourite is the ride west over the Burringbah Ranges. Its only short but has some really fast bends. Woooohooo!!

I did exactly the same here this weekend (only we are starting to morph from summer into autumn, not winter to spring) with a blast across the Welsh countryside as far as the Irish Sea (almost exactly midway between the ferry ports, so could go no further west). Spookily similar ride - early start on empty roads (06:00) and cool morning air (10 deg C) followed by a glorious sunny day (23 deg C), but with ever increasing volumes of cars and bikes coming out to enjoy the bank holiday Monday and slowing down my ride!

I do like those uniquely Aussie expressions!  No dead dingos round these parts - plenty of badgers, rabbits, squirrels and a sheep festering where they fell.

yep did the detour off the freeway and stopped at moobal pub  for a drink before heading over Burringbar range nigel  ..got a good run over those hills without any tintop intervention ...this time .

I think we did well with the choice of that loop ..and always good to catch up with local k passionate riders   

its a pitty that time and circumstance prevented me making the trip south for the meeting with paul  in Sydney.

well its been a while

Christmas has now passed ..but the summer rolls on with incredibly warm conditions around here for the past 2 months

besides that, very little cash to hand has quelled the ability to get out and about.

but today , after a overcast Saturday , the temperatures were quite agreeable and the hip pocket was not so lonesome of that folding stuff

time to get off   with clear skys in view but predictions of some wet around the locale but at 29 deg c  awesome day to go for a ride

the aim to reach Blakeys place to deliver some long overdue parts . care of twb on his recent trip out here .







up the hills ...because the highway to blakeys is just too easy ..and a little more time to appreciate the road and scenery along the path

I caught up with several riders heading up mt Nebo , behind a Ferrari something , who really let loose after the turnoff to Jollys lookout on the hill climb and after a tourist (slow driver ) turned off the track...  of corse the riders were all over his behind in just a sec ...but the sound emanating from the rear of a v10 at full throttle and smoking tyres was inspiring  ...grin



Mt Glorious achieved  for a drink and a chat with some of the local café visitors riding much younger and sporty machines ...and off again down the twistys to Samford ..fortunately able to blast past some slow coachers terrified by the descent and holding up the traffic , as usual



the rain forest surrounding mount glorious is always good to be in .

fortunately for me the road was clear after the passing , allowing a spirited foot peg grinding route to Samford ...and then onto Dayboro for a stop at the bakery to grab some food , before the Mount Me incline ..



Mount Me lookout achieved  some food and a brief stop , always a challenge worthy of a trip





blakeys place ..in the distance behind one of those bumps in the horizon .

onto Woodford and then the back road over the Peachester range ...leading back down to the coastal strip
fortunately I got a really good run , including for the first time ever, a sweet run over Peachester , fortunately a very low slung Toyota lead me into peachester and fanged the life out of the thing ...giving me great feedback to the expected corners approaching,, which I have not experienced before ....what can I say ...awesome !! 

onto blakeys ..(not home) ...blast ... my fault as I hadn't quite planned the event and let anybody know beforehand  , spare of the moment I guess , after seeing the sun and much cooler temperatures ?

oh well ...back to the coast , and Redcliffe for a relaxing feed of fish and chips by the shore , magnificent





before heading back through the city and home ,, got a few surprise comments about how clean old Gerty appeared to others eyes ..from total strangers , along the track

all in all parts delivered to blakeys screen door and a good experience we all could do with , getting out and about on our beloved "K" bike ..

there shouldn't be comparisons, just the appreciation of what we can do and enjoy the experience that I'm sure we all share .

have fun guys ..  april is our next weather change up here . but before then is the krr , a hot a sweaty run into the bush from afar ....grin

Real nice ride report Charlie and great pics (as usual) - I'm surprised how green it all looks given the crazy temperatures you've all been having down there.

Sounds like you had a great day out, but pity you missed Blakey. 
Gerty certainly is looking very tidy and probably enjoyed stretching her legs a little.

after many months , finally got time to get out and about
for me, a pretty standard route , but so glad to get some wind in the face
Nebo - Glorious for a cool drink , then down the hill to Somerset Dam
back via Esk , Fernvale (with a whole troop of vrods ...(slow coaches held me up heaps , loud noisy things with plates like "wgboy" )

Ipswitch , then home

the old girl "Gerty "is looking pretty clean at the moment , and the scenery was great
about 24-26 c  wind felt like 18 c

Certainly nice weather up your way. My first official ride with the group was up that way a few years ago and I got to meet in the flesh trouble makers like Two Wheels Better, Rick G, Blakey and a bloke called Charlie.

Thanks for the piccies, Chazza. Kinda makes the old homesick butterflies come up seeing the home views like that. I wonder how the 'BB' would take to those roads? I think she'd love it, but reckon I couldn't get it easily roadworthy and rego'd Down Under, what do you think?

after some repairs to the old girl , and lots of sun around se queensland 
a trip south to catch up with my mum etc  having last briefly seen her down in Newcastle at my brothers place , for just a hour or so whilst staying overnight at Toms place

so off we head  looks like just a fine day for riding (forecast for last few days were to be rained in ) .

fuel up and all is looking fine
heres some pics along the path






about Rathdowney  a look towards the hills shows some cloud , with rain over them thar hills





twistys , twistys and some mist around some of the corners led to slippery oil patches in the hills , on the down side of the Richmond river the roads
dried out some and eventually Kyogle  achieved , looking back towards the border , with rain just about to hit the small township



I sat in the rain in Lismore , after a refill ,waiting for the rain to subside , 
made a break for it and realised that the rain was pretty much localised , thank heavens

 

leaving Kyogle again  chasing a m class  all wheel drive  bmw thing into the hills , got him in the twistys over the mountain , he was really low flying this one ... 5k and up to keep up , and well you can guess the rest



over the border the light rains made it slippery to navigate  but the m beast was far behind

pulled up at rathdowey again  to observe that the read tyre is just about toast , in the centre , but the chicken strips had recent wear ...giggle



a pleasant  cruze  the rest of the way home in double demerit territory  had me home by 6  and enjoying a beer or three

great to be out and about

a new rear tyre ...yippee !!  (care of the passionate tyre Guy) ...the first tyre was a motza and couldn't be comfortably centred up  to run without some major weights ....but the second tyre just breezed it in with less than 5 grams to get it back to static equilibrium (the dynamic measurement on his balancing machine is really hard to accomplish with the weird setup of the wheel centre hub, apparently  !! ) 







well now to scrub it in ... along the path around "the block "

was hoping to meet up with Matt ...but he disappeared from contact ...um lateish last night

oh well, off we go  around some of the local roads and small towns dotting the fabulous "scenic rim "  area of south east queensland
not unfamiliar to some of the Krew from down south , a few years ago now, when we met at Boonah for k komeraderie  gathering  , heading over the range 4 times in one day .

back road to Boonah through "Peak Crossing , Purga Creek"  etc, just south of Ipswitch  and onto Boonah proper



interesting "plug  formations "(ancient volcano cores ) projecting out of in the, now, valley floor,  along the way ,

south of Boonah heading past the turnoff to the "Queen Mary Falls , Teviot Falls"  hill climb  this time and onto Maroon dam and further east Rathdowney

the valley below the scenic rim part of the "Great Dividing Range"



and over the  small hump in the range that holds back the Maroon Dam ...some interesting heads of ranges now contoured out to valleys of great pasture  and cropping properties 



 

yay a old favorite Rathdowney  and a stop for refreshment ...amazingly not a hot day by any queensland standards with ambient temps when I started around 17 degrees ...now 21 ...quite  a cool day ...for us lot

looking back at the border range



onto Beaudesert ...then  Wonglepong (yes, that's right  there is such a place ) where a huge AQUIS event was going on ...(horses and stuff )  looking like there was some very slick horse floats and grounds manicured for the event over probably 100 - 200 acres  viewable from the top of Tamborine Mountain ...  not far off , and on the path .

Canungra achieved , had a stop to view all the different Road Warriors out and about today  and the various machines collected along the popular "café  strip" 

some interesting Nortons were found  amongst the hum , noise and rattle of those  harley machines lining the roadside and car parks behind the cafes



next up to Tamborine mountain and the coolness of the atmosphere , some 3 degrees cooler than the valley floor below

(note: circled area is the horse event site  only a small section of the property that extends for miles )

that rear tyre is working really well with now some miles under the belt , the release compound has dissipated and the small injection rubber tags almost gone .





back home down the hill ,through Beenleigh - Yatla and up the M1  highway  to Springwood ...then westwards  to home

about 295 k s " around the block"

and feeling much better with some wind in the face and some miles on the old girl after some other throttle body work achieved
ready for the trip up to Stanthorpe next weekend ...and further to the "Ninja Gully " event a couple of weeks later ...
my guess Is the front tyre will need replacing  real soon as well

A good'un, Charlie. Your vivid descriptions and clear piccies make me miss those green hills of my 'other home' all the more. October, here we come.

Get someone to make you up one of these, Chaz. It uses four tapered seat screws of the appropriate length and size of Oilhead, later R bike and early K bike to pull itself into the wheel centre. The roller rod of my static balance stand fits perfectly through the middle and Bob's yer uncle. It could work on a dynamic balancing machine, as long as the machine's shaft diametre was correct. This one is a commercial version from America's el cheapo tool supplier, Harbor Freight. I sent it to the machinist extraordinaire who made Big Block's front axle and he centred it. It was off by a red pubic hair. Not no more.
