Today I tried to change the head lamp bulb on my 1989 LT, but in vain. I consulted the owners manual, but it only described the procedure for the model without fairing and for the RS.... It seems as I have to dismantle half of the fairing to get access, but it can't be right...or? Hopefully you guys know better, so any suggestion is very welcome.

If you remove the instrument panel (speedo etc) by undoing the electrical connector plug and the holding screws, you can just get enough room to manouvre your hands around and get at the bulb . You may have to take off your screen as well to make it a bit easier.
Study the wire holding clip as it comes off, it only goes on one way
and can be a nightmare for impatient old dudes with bad eyesight.

sensei ...it might be easier if you undid the right hand pocket

about 6 screws

this might give you access to the behind headlight area ..well does for me on the rt

Charlie is right, take out one of the fairing pockets, right hand one if you are right handed, left if you are left handed. It's still a bit fiddly but you get enough elbow room to get in there.

you only need to undo pockets to get to globe that all i do on my lt

Maybe mine is different. K100LT I got the bulb out without removing anything. It was fiddly but doable.

Yes you are right, I also managed to change the bulb without dismantling anything, but it took a lot of time and patience and I guess that persons with large hands will have difficulties here...
