Hi Guys,

I just wanted to make sure I got the gearbox oil level correct. Got this 'C' spanner 2nd hand and believe it is correct but have a nagging memory that the 16 valve spanners are a different length to others? WOuld be useful if someone in the know could advise if this is the right one?

Thanks a lot! Very Happy

Dave

Hi there MT :-)

Try have a look in your tool-kit if it is still in the bike. You should look for a "L" shaped piece of metal (W*H = 1,5*5mm, approx. 40mm long on the short side of the "L") with a little mark at the lower end of the long side of the "L" and this is actually the measuring device for the gearbox oil-level on the 16V. The gearbox takes 0,85 L of oil.

When I get home I´ll try to look in the manual and upload a picture of the measure-device.

regards

Bjarne

AFIK it is the same as the k100. The oil level in the gearbox is the same and so is the gearbox

Hi Guys, and thanks for the fast replies!

Seems there is a difference, Bjarne you are spot on - I had a rummage in the OEM tool kit and found the 'L' shaped thing - I wondered what it was for! Dipping with this shows the level to be spot on but with a 'C' spanner no oil is showing. Great stuff - there is oil in the gearbox to the right level! You can see the level line on the photo below.

Yep, that´s the ting Very Happy

Funny thing is that when you measure the L-shaped from the L to the mark it is 116 mm as described by Rick (and yes, same gearbox, same amount of oil as the 8V).

Think you might got a non-bmw C-spanner?

Hi there, I don't have the spanner, but made the mark on one of the bike´s allen wrench.
Best regards.
