does anyone know if a type 3 outer lid will fit inner of a type 2 pannier
i lost my left side lid the other day

+1 on the thread search Col.

The gaskets moved from the base to the lid at some point (T-3 I think) IIRC, so that might be a non runner. Locks differ to early ones too but they could be re-revited I guess.

i read that thread first i understand gaskets and locks are different and it is a little deeper i can work with that but what i want to know if that is the only differences or are they a different shape and the two halves wont go together at all

In the thread Charlie reefers to I did write that the two halves (in the combination mk.3 base and mk.1 lid) did fit, but it was a very thight fit.
The opposite way would then be a more loose fit.

Don`t know how waterproof it would be as the opposite edge to the gaskets meets gaskets on the side instead of in the middle.
On the other hand haven`t seen one that is completly waterproof yet, due to the recessed mounting of the locks at the top.

Next issue would be that the mk.3 locks is turned 180o, and the mounting points for the rivets on the inside of the lids is recessed.

But both with gaskets and locks, it would be several possibilities to find a workaround.
