Hi, I was removing my Instrument Cluster when...*&Shocked !".. dropped on the driveway when I was unscrewing the electrical plug. Humm... if I would have knowed... Result, the needle shaft of the speedometer broke off....

I've been searching all day, to find either a used or new speedometer. The hic is that I did find one but it's in MPH and not in KM. I know that K1000 models works fine with by bike.

So if anyone would know where I may purchase either an instrument cluster or just the speedometer I would really appreciate... The season is early I I don't really like driving with reference only my RPM versus gear...

Thank you in advance...

The Greenmachine from Granby, Quebec.

All I can suggest is to keep watch on Ebay in Aust or UK. I occasionally find one there.
If you aer game to pull them apart and reassemble then the shaft would be common to all right up to K1100.

Hi there, mine broke a few years ago, while trying to remove the needle, broke close to the needle. I fixed it with crazy glue and a sleeve made out of a hypodermic needle.
Hope this can help.
Best regards

Recently I had my speedometer apart and broke the shaft as well and I fixed it with gorilla superglue and a fragment of one of those red skinny straws you stir coffee with. I like japuentes idea with the hypodermic needle better though...

www.motorworks.co.uk supply used units and am sure would have one available. They are based in Yorkshire in england and very reliable. However the fixes being offered based on superglue and various other adhesives are perfectly acceptable too, just take a little time.

Thanks everyone for your input,

however I must explain that the needle shaft is broken below the sleeve therefore impossible to glue because to have access to put the glue I must remove the faceplate and then unscrew the grey sleeve then reassemble all and then insert the needle shaft and hopefully wish that the glue didn't dry out.

I've purchased an instrument cluster from England, however the odo is in miles. So once I've receive it my thought is to take the electronic circuits from my defective cluster and replace it on the new one. Replace the face plate with the km for odo.

I will take pictures of this process and post it so that it might be hepfull to a member.

Again thanks to all for your help! And by the way, Crazy Frog, I will have to drive by your home sometime...

Please do let us know how that works out green machine. I've thought about replacing my speedo faceplate with kms as most vehicles in Ireland are UK spec but all our speeds and most distance signs are now in kms.

I've received my UK cluster but the needle broke through the shipment.

So here how I managed to convert my speedometer from UK to KM.

I removed the mechanical from the UK cluster and installed it in my defective KM speedo.

You must replace two gears in the trip meter.

You can verify the speed accuracy with the software but mine was off by 2 km/hr.

The trip odo works fine in km.

For my broken needle:

Removed the trip odo (two screws in front)

Remove the grey sleeve and replace it by a cutted BIC pen ink tube, about 3 mm.

Inserte it far down in the clear plastic flush to the bottom.

Put some flux on both shaft and heat with an soldering iron (375°C max, it won't melt any palstics)

Then apply a coat of welding.

Final part, with long nose pliers, take the broken shaft and align it to the needle shaft and solder by heating both shaft.

Wait about 10 secondes and there, you shaft is welded and solid.

Hpe this will help !Very Happy

Then

Good result greenmachine - 2km is a pretty acceptable deviation. Do you have pic of which two gears you replaced?

For reference, Motorworks will not supply to the US or Canada (but Moto-Bins will) and as stated on their website this is for 'insurance' reasons... ?

Hey Guest in the House...

I don't understand your post.

We are talking about converting UK to KM speedometer.

88KE I will post pictures in about two weeks. If you search on this forum, I think that I've have read a post about broken gears and a website to purchase those gears.

Until then have nice rides...

It's easy. Note that in April 92KK K100LT 193214 mentioned Motorworks as a supplier of second hand parts (as referenced in my capture of their quote). You are in Canada. Motorworks UK isn't a good source for you, unfortunately. My post simply clarifies the point. You may continue.

No worries. No brutishness felt. It's always good to have as many spares sources as possible, and Motorworks are otherwise a very good one, it's just a pity they don't do business in North America, for you lot.
Cheers.
