Hi there, I just got my first Brick, and even before I make it run I am looking for a nice set of fairings. Very hard to find, by the way! I know that the battery cover is different in 85 from other years, but is the lower fairing the same? Thank you!

The Fairings all vary depending on the style of the bike your looking at...

  • K100, with no fairing.
  • K100RS, with sports fixed fairing and lower bars.
  • K100RT, with full fairing for 'road touring'.
  • K100LT, with a higher screen and additional equipment as standard for 'Luxury Touring'.
the RT and LT have similar fairings but they are the largest of the lot with bigger screens etc

Let's talk only about K100RT models. Mine is a late 1985 (5/85).

I know that the small side fairings (battery covers) from other years will not fit in my bike (the shape is a little bit different).

My question is about the larger lower fairings (the ones with the vents): if I buy one, belonging to a 1987 or 1989 RT, wiil they fit in 1985 RT body? The shape looks the same.

I have managed to get all the fairing parts for my 1985 RS from ebay, i notice there is quite a lot available in the states worth a look. Good luck, mine is almost ready the only problem is that the parts are not all the same colour, that is a job for the winter.

That is what I am doing right now, but not sure if I can use fairings form a late bike! E-bay is great but I also got good tip from you guys and called bobbmw.com, very nice website.

It looks like, at least the lower fairings, are interchangeable. I think I will take a shot!

Good luck in your project, I am hunting for parts now and willing finish it during the winter, if lucky!!!

Thank you
