I got a PM with a question about a flasher relay wiring diagram.
I choose to post it here, and that way being avialable also to others which find it useful.

thanks inge !!!

reason for asking was i want to change the rate of flash ....mine seems to be quite slow with about 1 flash per 2 seconds ....most others ive seen were about 1 flash per second ?

if your flash is slow that would suggest something isn't working right....

If you think of it this way when one of your indicator lights blows they flash at double the normal speed... I would hazard a guess that if the resistance was very high then it would cause the flashing to slow down.... (someone will correct my logic if it's wrong)

Try taking one of the bulbs out and see if it flashes at the "normal" rate... if so first thing is to check your bulbs you can do a resistance check and note what the readings are... if one is really high then thats the problem one....

thanks twincarb ..yes good advice to check and or try something different ...

ill report back

but i have a feeling that the circuit doesnt use a bimetal strip for the flash process ...but im often wrong in here ....but i do like exploring possibilities

just the way i'm wired i guess

It does work on the light resistance, that's why it flashes twice as fast with a broken bulk and doesn't really work with LED lights. As above, I think you have a higher than normal resistance. Look at the bulbs and see if one has a silvery deposit - change it.

Does not work on the bimetallic strip but on an IC. Pin 7 (I think) controls the flash rate and if you cut it then they will flash at the same speed all of the time, that is with one bulb, or LEDs fitted. I cut mine ages ago as I have LEDs all round.

Duck wrote up a DIY for LEDs on the OEM flasher relay .  Cutting Pin 7 on the U243B stops the hyperflashing (because now the IC no longer senses the lower load presented to the flasher by LEDs).  It may also solve Charlie's problem with low flash rate.  Duck suggests cutting the IC's pin; I prefer cutting the PCB trace.  It is possible to reverse the procedure if the latter is done, not the former.

That is what I have done. Rather than try to cut the tiny leg off an IC, it is much easier to cut the trace on the PCB with a craft knife. I also thought this was reversible with a blob of solder should the cutting not have worked.

This is a integrated warning indication, so the driver knows that one bulb is out.
