Hello , I am trying to check the fuel injectors on a 85 K100 which has sat for 10+ yrs . I have tried to clean the injectors . The injector are off of the rail and I have pressurized the injector with air and cleaning solvent . When I press the starter there is no spray coming from the nozzle . If I connect a 12v tester to the electical connection I get current when I press the starter . I do not hear the injectors make any noise . Could the injector not be opening because of build up or does this sound more like a electrical issue ?

Thanks for any help .

Hi there, I would take them to a injector cleaning workshop. They have the proper testing and cleaning equipment and spares, remember that our bike´s injectors are the same kind used in cars.
Best regards
JAP

Does the fuel pump start?

Follow Inge's advice. You should hear the pump "whir".

It will be good to have them cleaned. Rjtrucker on this forum cleans them here in the US. Reasonable price. IF you want new, try Euromoto Electrics. Sell for $50 each plus shipping. $ pack for 199.00

I have installed a new fuel pump and filter , you can hear it pump up . I have just tried triggering the pressurized injectors by running a jumper from a 12v source . Still no spray . It seem that most likely the injectors are plugged . Unless I am doing something incorrectly .

I have found a place that i can get 4 rebuilt and matched Ford injectors . In another thread I found people have had very good success with injectors for the 4.9 l Ford # F1ZZ9F593B .

You need to put them through an ultrasonic cleaner to start with then run some carbie cleaner through them till you get a good spray pattern. If it were me I would look into the newer 4 hole injectors as they are giving a bit more grunt for less fuel. Check on ebay there was some there a few days ago.

It might also be a good idea to disconnect your spark plugs. I hear of one idiot who tried exactly what you are trying. The injectors did spit fuel out. It went everywhere. Surprisingly as I cranked the engine over, the pistons were going up and down ( left to right?). Who would have thought. Well this makes a little vacuum in the cylinder that likes to suck in air AND petrol vapour from the injectors that are squirting this little mess all over the bike and surrounds.
I don't think I have to explain any more.
Although it did give me (um him) the final excuse to strip the thing down and make a decent effort at cleaning.

This is what I ended up doing.
Then I went and got a set from this guy because I ended up breaking one in an unrelated event.

preventing the plugs spsrking involves a bit more than pulling the plug caps off. If you do it that way there is a good chance you can damage the CDI unit. Best thing to do is to earth the lead so that the CDI unit is still firing but not sparking.

Be careful cleaning the injectors yourself. You should have them cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaning tank. But putting 12 volts thru them for too long (especially if dry) can over heat the coil in them. You need to use an ohm meter to see if the coil is any good. If the coil is good in most cases I can clean them. If you send me an injector for cleaning and I can't clean it and get it functioning properly I do not charge for my time. Also the o rings on the bike are over 25 years old. I install new o rings and replace the screen in the injector. If you or anyone else wants more info on cleaning fuel injectors or the service I offer feel free to contact me.

All due respect to RJTrucker, I had this same problem with both my K bikes, and bought the recon'd Fords for one, and a good used set for the other. I didn't try 'Trucker, he didn't have a service at that time. These injectors get sealed up for all of eternity when left sitting for years.

a cheap 9 volt battery might help with the activation of the injectors ...just to free them up a little ...but agreed dont hold constant voltage to the injector for any longer than a second or so at a time

many repetitions maybe required after letting the injector soak in some form of cleaner for a while

You are right. Not all injectors can be saved. I have a set of ford injectors from my turbo set up which could not be saved. I have had alot of good results with the ultrasonic cleaner I use. Like I said in my other post. If the coil in the injections is good in most cases I can clean and flow test them. And if I can't there is no charge. I also have some injections to replace bad ones if needed.(for a reasonable price)

I would like to thank everyone for the help . I got the K100 up and running for the 1st time yesterday . She smoked for about 5 min and then settled in to a nice smooth idle . While I had her on the center stand I clicked her in to 1st gear and let her idle to circulate the oil in the gearbox and drive shaft . This is the first time in over ten years or more that she has run . Are seal problems common after letting a K bike sit for an extended time .The odometer reads just over 5K . The next step will be to lube all of the cables and then a very short ride followed be some new tires . At present she has a set of Michelins , I believe they came from the factory with Metzlers . I will post some photo in the next couple of days . Once again I would like to thank everyone for the help .

I will change out the brake fluids and coolant in the next couple of days . I planned on doing the spline lube when I have the tires off being changed . I found a neat idea in one of the post about using long bolts to support the drive shaft when doing the front splines . I will give that a try .

The cables which is teflon lined should not be lubed, only the niples on the ends.

Hello , I have a question in regards to the final drive splines . I have the drive shaft out and the splines look to be like new , I can detect no signs of wear . It appears that possibly two types of grease have been used , one appears to be white and the other is black , neither is very heavy . The white is more visable at the u joint end of the shaft . I have ordered some Guard Dog 570 spline lube . The bike downshifts very well with no hang up or hard spots . The question is what color is the grease use by BMW ? And since it is this far apart should I do the clutch splines as well .

Thanks

You should start a new thread on this new question. Keeps the forum tidy and easier to search later on.
