Well, it hasn't happened to me before. You know, you are enjoying it, really enjoying it, getting it higher and higher and then you can't get it back down. The tacho needle gets stuck at about 2,500 and will not go up or down. Sometimes when you hit a bump...freedom, one of those things....go for about a kilometre and back to the same old story. Pulled the instruments out and had a good look and....
I can get it up, but it won't come down P9140212

Sorry, pushed wrong button...maybe it was because I ride at warp speed or that I am warped, but I have not come across a warped instrument face. The old Toyotas used to have their speedo needles sag or just fall off...al due to our warm climate.
Has any one come across this before? My solution, at the moment is to glue a plastic screw cover to the "glass" and therefore lift the face away from the needle. Are there any other solutions?
I can get it up, but it won't come down P9140213
This happened yesterday on my old faithful naked....probably upset that the RT is getting ready to being completed.

So the old girl is cracking a darkie hey. Like many of us the face is the first thing that cracks up with age. Seen it a few times and had it myself. I ended up buying another instrument cluster that was in good nick and I am slowly robbing parts from it to feed both the Ks on a steady diet of all things instrument.

wow stan thats an odd thing to see .

have you thought about removing the plastic section and heating it with a heat gun ...whilst it is laying flat on a good strong surface ...maybe a cast iron frying pan ......till it flattens out ....

of corse not just heat in one spot ...wave the heat gun to slowly heat the surfaces evenly ...

just a thought

But Stan, doesn't your naked K have about a quintillion kilometres on the clock? It's old enough to smoke and to show a few wrinkles.

Thanks for your responses....yes it is getting on a little in age. Do you think I have grounds for a warranty claim from BMW? The stamp, or marking on the inside of the tacho shows that it was made 3/1983....nearly 30 years .
Seeing I superglued that bit of plastic and would probably wreck the instrument doing too much work. At this stage I will leave be for the summer. There is enough clearance for the needle to work.

Hi Stan,

I've got a speedo that I've cannibalized for spares, clock, gear display etc, and I can't imagine that I'll ever need the rev counter face. The chances of the sun distorting the face here are just about zilch and I think it would be more use fitted to a bike than lurking in my loft.

So, if you want it, PM me where to send it and you can have it with my compliments.

Of course it's calibrated to Imperial RPM not metric RPM,, but I expect you could put up with that.

Cheers,

Paul.

Wouldn`t the needle get a problem then.........when it don`t recognizes the imperial RPM`s?

Seeing we are in the land down under, we have to take in account that the tacho works in reverse...after all we are the mirror reverse of the north. Does this mean that a northern hemisphere imperial tacho will turn into a metric one in the south? Pm has been sent to Sidecar.
