I'm replacing my leaking front fork seals and when I pulled the upper cap and removed the upper spring it is a progressive type spring and the fork seal had red Locktite on the seating flange. Is this standard or has someone already been into the front forks??

progressive fork springs are a personal preference, the P/O may have decided to try firmer front suspension or simply thought to try em to counter spring sag. The seals may have been removed and permatex or locktite used to reseat the seals rather than take a chance they would leak past the base on the legs as apossed to leaking past the tubes. So may be a fussy pre/owner or a cheap insurance job or is that assurance job

Showa forks did have progressive springs from factory.
And yes Charlie...they did have circlips.
But the red globb sounds suspicious..............

I'd be more intrigued then suspicious, did he do it to stop a leak or did he do it to avoid a leak? one is on the front foot and the other on the back foot

Both forks went back together fine, some pitting on the tubes that I was able to get to look pretty good. PO had bike for 10 years but got into a car/bike collision and damaged the rear tail section. I'm not so sure he was the one that did the fork work as he bought a K100 to swap frames on to his K75. Once into it he found that OOOPS that will not work and just left both bikes 75% disassembled, that's when I bought them.
Also my Clymer manual says 420cc for empty forks on a 92, correct? and it has circlips and they are Showa forks.

Yes, 420 ml is the correct amount when the fork has been dismantled.

Hi Bohumil!

As Avenger says 360 ml is the correct amount, which is used on all K100`s with a fairing (exept RS models with a sport fork).

On the naked K100 the amount is 330 ml.

Here you can download the factory manual.
