Hello fellow Kmen.

I have just joint your forum after finding some great info yesterday on your site. I have just brought a BMW K100 RT 1983 with the plan to restore but I can't stop riding it so it not getting retored in the near future. I have previously owned Yamah TRX 850, Susuki GSX 1100E, Suzuki GS450, Kawasaki LTD 250 and countless chook chasers. At the moment I have a KTM 520 and the K100. K100 is the best thing I have ever riden but the seat is painfull. I had the seat reshaped and recvered but it hasn't helped. Will have to try again to make it comfortable for an old bloke.

Greetings Waz welcome to our version of an asylum.
The stock seat was called a bench seat and for a very good reason. There was an option called a comfort seat and was very good but most are not as good as they were including mine. There are some Corbin seats come up on fleabay every now and then. Your bike being an early model with the grab handles in the seat you have to be caerful to get the correct one.
Also getting someone who is a specialist in motorcycle seats to redo the whole thing is an option but even then the base of the comfort seat is a better base to work with.
Some of the guys here might know of someome down your way that can help.

Welcome Waz. You don't mention where, in this great state, you hail from. A bit more information to add to Rick G.
New menber from Wollongong Pc230310
The front bike, a rather interesting shade of orange, is a 1987 model, with the hand grips on the ducktail (comfort seat). The red bike is a 1983 model with the older seat set up of handles in the seat. However, the "plank" was rebuilt some years ago and is now far better on the butt. If you you info on it, pm me.
Welcome to the forum, we need more to counter the hoards from Qld.

waz ...when i got mine recovered ,,,,by an auto upholsterer ...i asked them to cut about 1/3 out of the form shape and install some medium density foam instead of the aging and hardened top layers of stuff they fill the seat with ...it turned out great ...something i can sit on all day ...yes mine is a comfort seat design ...but this simple modification proved excelent...( i also got them to make the seat inserts ((stuff where you sit )) with some of that non slip type material ) that has also helped heaps ...and all for under 130 aussie sheckles ...bargain

welcome again

Welcome from the land of mist and great pies Waz.
Mine is an 85 RT, stock seat, hard as hell but I bought an AirHawk seat cushion and a sheepskin
cover. I have a crook back but have been able to do up to 800 ks until my knees give out. The seat cushion is great (no, I don't own shares).
Look forward to catching up mate

Thanks for the tips, I had the ridge in the seat cut back 2 inches to give me a bit of leg room and get my knees in behind the fairing plus a gell insert fitted, he has put the gel insert under my nads too far forward to do any good. I have ardered to air hawk and sheep skin hopeing that will sort it out.
