Happy new year everyone Very Happy

What is the best way to fit the 4 clamps on the exhaust, I notice the clamps have 2 different part nos. how do you tell which ones go on the different pipes. When I bought the bike there were no clamps on them at all and I got a used exhaust which had the clamps but I can get 3 of them to stay tight but the 4th I cannot get access to tighten it. Do they have to be fitted in a particular way?

Any help appreciated

Ali

You will find they only go on one way round which allows you to tighten them up! I found it out by putting them on and then couldn't tighten them up!

They are allocated exhaust 1 + 3 and 2 + 4 so if you put all 4 on with the like on 1+ 3 and the others on 2 + 4 and you can tighten them then you got it right first time around!!

is the exhaust numbered from the front of the engine (1 being at the front)?

Does any one have any pictures of how it should be fitted?

These 2 images should help, they are taken from the Clymer manual... They certainly give a good idea of how they fit....

I found that if you put the clamps onto the muffler first you can see which way they go. That way you can see where the small tab that locates into a notch on the muffler tube goes. Then transfer them onto the header tubes and refit the muffler. Its a bit easier to fit the muffler back up with the clamps slid up the header tubes.

Try and put some sort of anti seize on the threads too, the heat does dry it out but at least it makes it easier if you have to undo them again.
