Guess who got a heat gun for Christmas from santa? Guess who can get hold of perplex and polycarbonate in town?
Now the hard part....does any one have some ideas in the process....that have been successful? I have seen Col's efforts for a screen for his sidecar....great, but just 90 degree bends. The windscreen will need more subtle changes. I have the original screen, but would prefer to have the new one further away from my face and taller.

most of the after market ones are designed that way stan

perhaps you could use a plywood mould for the main part ...as it would help eliminate the distortions

not sure about the lower ....round the fairing proper bit though ...

i guess you could use the one that you currently have for that section

good luck mate

need to make a mold of what your wanting lay the sheet ove it and bake it in the oven for a couple hours at 250 to 300 to get it soft enough to form to your mold. if you want something with to many curves like a bubble sheild will have to have it vacucume molded. Thanks to american restro and Tanked

Hi there, desertbeemer is right when I was at Imperial College we used to make a few private windscreens for bikes and tried the heatgun approach but found the temperature required for moulding was too close to the point where the plastic got damaged to be controllable with a heat gun. the technique, as desertbeemer says, is to use an oven and a mould. Finding a cooperative owner who will let you make a mould off their screen is the ideal route.

Rossco, you remind me of when I tried to buy a pair of shoes in the south of France. The young bloke serving me,after consulting his father, told me that he has shoes my size, if I cut my toes off first!
My wife will not like the idea of using the oven to bake a windscreen, so that idea may be put on the backburner. Thank you all for your advice.....may play with the gun and get back to Charlie's idea of little fairing wings from the new radiator guards.

Stanley, I might be able to help. I have a tall screen from Motobins, great for winter riding. After the hordes have gone tomorrow I'll get some deets and measurements for you.
Happy new year by the way
RT

As with using the dishwasher to clean parts or any other domestic item for use with bike parts wait till she has gone out and then do it. If you are really cunning buy some premixed cake mix do the screen and bake her a cake after Smile

Yay, almost back on line. New laptop and Windows 8, having a lot of trouble figuring out how to copy, paste, post, pick my nose and turn it off.
Anyway Stanley, my windscreen that I bought from Motobins ($200 delivered including $100 postage.) is :-

615 mm tall
500 mm wide at about handlebar height
350 mm wide at the top. (tapers in on the way up).
it fits not like an original with a mega lean backwards, but rather straightish up.
I am about 182cm tall now (started at 185) and the top of the screen is about nose height,
I look over it, and the wind noise is almost nil.
Not good for hot weather riding though as there is no real airflow behind, but I rode all last winter toasty warm and almost rain proof.

For the life of me I cannot find a photo of it on the bike, and so far can't figure out how to get a photo off my camera onto this new whizz bang system.

I had it on the Queensland trip so maybe it's on file under that get together last May.

Sorry to be so late in reply
Cheers RT.

So you bought a laptop. Even after Brian said to get a pc you bought a laptop. And now you can't even pick your nose with it. Told you at the pub even before lots of beers. Probably told you many times more after too many beers.
In the words of Peppy le pew 'le sigh'

Why would you want to turn your nose off.

Yay again, picture of tall screen in comparison to Ulrich's original. (I figured out the secret to the colonel's speed is that he cannot possibly see the speedo under his windscreen).

Man doesn't that blue look good, and check out the engine block. Anyone want to buy It ?
