The microswitch on my electric windscreen has broken. BMW do not do this part but will gladly sell the motor assembly for £190 + VAT (extra 20%). Has anyone ever sourced this switch? What is the correct terminology for the switch i.e. is it a single pole double throw, dual circuit type. The ones I have seen online only have one push button, this switch has two. As always thanks

Gerard

If it makes the screen go up and down then it must be a double pole double throw to operate both actions?? wouldn't that sound right? I know I'll go look in the shed and read the wiring diagram, um may take awhile as daughter has right of way when I get off here.

Gerard. You might remember me chatting to you about windscreen electrics outside cafe Chimes in Hillsborough. I have an electric window motor here from a classic Range Rover (same as landrover discovery too) with what appears to be an indetical motor and micro switches as the K screen one. I believe it is just the factory settings on the cams to activate the micro switch that differs.

That said I have to do a bit more poking at it to compare both which involves getting my screen off. (That needs to be done anyway) So I'm away now for the next 36 hours but I'll have a close look when I get back and if they are the same I'll pop one of the micro switches in the post to you.

I recall Inge saying that some of the BMW cars have the same motors in the sunroofs so there may be some micro switches there as well

the assembly consists of two microswitches riveted together. The picture below does not show the two switches but they are stacked.

[solved]Electric Windscreen 013%2520%25282%2529

If you feel inspired, it might be possible to drill out the rivets, replace the one failing switch and reassemble. I think this operation would require dexterity and the means to remove the motor assembly for accessibility. The replacement micoswitch would be "SPST NO momentary contact".

The switch is delivered from a Swiss company called Polycontact,
haven`t found them as single parts from any other companies.

Some have used a model called HPS 32 from Petercemswitch, which is a direct fit.

As Rick says it`s a sunroof motor and mechanism used on the E32 and E34 sedans.
These motor/mechanism shows up at Ebay now and then.

ah !....thanks robmack

i had a feeling that that would be the case .

looking at the dimensions and relative sizes , they look pretty standard to me .

"omron" carry a huge range of microswitches . with one suitable im sure they list all sorts of actuator length , position and activation presure . having said that , most of them at spdt and looking at the application those rivets could be drilled out easy and replaced with 2.5mm screws that we use in my industry ...probably 15 mm would suffice with some nylock nuts (not really neccessary though )

even the "generic " type switches would be suitable in this application i recon .

something i puled out of one of my work spares boxes , lever removed for clarity and application

[solved]Electric Windscreen 2012-111

in this size pretty much all the hole centres and depths of actuator are fairly similar

get youself down to a "radionics " (out here called "rs spares " store) and you should have one for under 3 bucks

hope this helps

this panasonic looks a suitable candidate, catalogue no 699 5317 but have a look in their huge parts book before ordereing dont forget most of the levers are remoovable if looking at something else of similar size

This is the dimensioned drawing for the replacement switch identified by Inge (HPS32):
[solved]Electric Windscreen HPS32%2520Microswitch%2520Dimensions
Dimensions are in millimeters.

Critical dimensions would be (1) the mounting hole spacing 9.5mm (2) the distance between the mounting hole and plunger 8.9mm (3) thickness of the switch 6.35mm.

Isn't the big electronics supplier in the UK "Radiospares" or "RS Electronics"?

The c/c distance between the holes on the genuine switches is 9 mm, by using 2 mm screws...it`s close as....

Haven`t written down the hole dimension at the plate, it seems like...no mods needed.

Further to the above, i am getting a couple of micro switches today. Anyone have a wiring diagram to cover from relays to motor & micro switches?

Thanks

Got two microswitches from Maplins as close to the above measurements as possible. Two differences, the pins are in a different order and the plunger did not meet the cams. I held the switches in position, marked the mounting plate and drilled a further two holes. Switches mounted, wires soldered and it works! I did have the screen working via a switch mounted on the bars and by passing the relays, motor powered direct from the battery but much better/ safer having the original setup working. Thanks guys Very Happy

Hi Gerald - I also now have a problem with the microswitch for the screen, but in my case the wires have broken away from the switch, and even after cleaning, cannot get the cables to solder on to the posts. So I have had a look at the Maplin website for their microswitches, and are totally confused with the selection (not difficult!!) Anyway can you tell me the part numbers for the switches you used and how you wired up the cables. I realise that C is common and are joined by the brown cable but did you use the NO or NC pins for the yellow wires ?

Thanks in advance

George
