Decided to take the bike into Armidale today and see if I could grab a rear tyre for it. There is still tread on the one on there but I thought I'd get new rubber for the ride to Narranderra and also for a new owner.
Not one tyre shop in town had a tyre to fit. ( 165/80/15. )
All agreed that it is 70's VW. ( Maybe Triumph or MG)
Finally found a bloke in an old out of the way orange painted shop who ordered one in for me for next week. He'll let me bring the bike in and use his trolley jack to take the rim off myself for them to fit the rubber.
The other 'major outlets' such as Beaurepaires won't take the rim off the bike...even if it's a car rim/...and won't let me do the job myself on site.....I'd have to take the rim off at home and present with it under my arm.
Pfffft.

I came across a tyre shop in Stanthorpe who told me that it was not possible to do bike tyres on a machine to fit car tyres so I told him that he had better tell Brad at the local bike shop that he has not been doing that for years.
Another shop did the change and even put the rear wheel on the dynamic ballancer for half what the bike shop wanted. 2 tyres and 1 ballance for $13.

Last year when returning from Esk I suffered a puncture on my 83 naked just outside Uralla. On the Monday they tried to source (the tyre place) a replacement from Armidale....all bike places contacted....not one. H then ranng Tamworth...first place had a choice of 4 different brands for the rear. Maybe some places do that little more to be prepared.

Finally got new tyre fitted today...am getting the rim removal time down to a trim 3 or 4 hours...
The tyre is a Federal Super Steel 165/80/15...made in China of course. $120 fitted and balanced. Photo of Bella and her new "friend"...might as well be a horse....all was going well until he tried to come home with us...Bella took a snap at him and he howled like a kitten and ran for his life...thanks doG!
