Col and I went on a "Fact finding" mission yesterday and have come up with some suggestions for the 3oth anniversary meeting. Some of the smaller localities around Bathurst that we considered were either too far or in one case the only pub in town had closed down!
We suggest the town of Blayney which is 34 kms from Bathurst as a possible venue. With true diligence we visited the town and made enquiries at the pubs....one has no accommodation, one has "very , very " basic facilities for bathing and toileting and one said it would get back to us and didn't.
However it does have other options..a caravan park, www.blayneytouristpark.com.au, which has cabins etc,etc
Three motels are in town and two are really new, The older one is Goldfields Motor Inn 02 63682000 and is at the end of the main drag. The newest is Leumeah Motel 02 63682755 rates about $90 for two people with a number of different options available...has cooking facilities etc.. Blayney Central Motel is in the main street and rates are $100 for twin, couples $95 and family rooms, . This has all cooking facilities as well. The owner of this one is happy for Bella to be on the doorstep of a unit for the night.
The Chinese restaurant is one of the best known and regarded in the central west of NSW. and is in the main drag.
Col has a liking for the Central, as he also inspected each place's toilets, microwaves, cupboards etc etc.
There is a suggestion and now we open up for discussions. All the places have vacancies for that weekend.
If anyone comes up with another place, Col and I are happy to check it all out.

My father used to say that Blayney was the coldest place in NSW. ( And he was from Armidale).
I have forgotten...why are we going to Bathurst...and...why are we not going to Bathurst?

I stayed over at Crookwell caravan park recently on my ride to Melb etc. My brother and his missus stayed at the pub in the main street and said it was good. We should meet at Bathurst or Blayney or somewhere stating with B and then go for a ride together down to Crookwell via Tuena...it's mostly dirt, but wonderfully scenic and there's no civilisation...apart from a PUB....which appears as if from nowhere....and where we could stop and have lemon squashes.

Oh well....just an idea.

Yes....I hadn't forgotten that...but why was Bathurst chosen...and if it is important or has something to do with wild rides on the Mountain with Bella...why are we now talking of going to Blayney?

Yes I thought that was what you meant but sometimes I just can't help myself.
Bathurst was chosen because of it's link with motorsport and then we discovered just how expensive the joint was for accomodation etc. so we decided to go nearby so that we could all still go for a ride around the mountain and gravel pits as they were known to some in the 70s.

I think that Blayney may be a place to stay a night or two, not to spend too much time in. Cheaper accommodation than Bathurst and 20 minutes away.

I might do that. I've lived in the US (8 states), Japan, England, Germany and Iraq. In all that travel I've never been able to make it to Australia but have always had it high on my list.

Which reminds me I was talking to a friend yesterday about the 30th and he was saying that the BMW clubs in various places across Australia seem to be populated by oilheads and that in some places the K riders were actually made feel very unwelcome so maybe that is why I got no response to the emails I sent out regarding the 30th. There doesnt seem to be any specifically K bike clubs although there are a few forums. I am just wondering how we can get the word out. I did think of flyer at the dealers but most K bike owners would shun the stealers like they have plague.
I tried a post on Motobrick and K11OG and got zero response. Some times I feel as if I am barking up a tree full of snakes.

Yeah Saxon I see what you mean. Personally I'd stay at the O'Connell Hotel. Much better atmosphere $70 a night. Only 4 rooms available though they are on 3 acres and welcome campers. Cook up a pretty good feed too.
A bit of bais here as this was my local for a long time. My mum still lives up the road 5 mins away.

I'm currently checking out JD's - Jack Duggans Irish Pub in Bathurst for a possible Fri night jaunt ( 20th Sept) just for the forum members.
they are OK for 7/8, but if Far Cairn goes ahead , Fri 20 might be possible.
it is located in central Bathurst, just down from the moutain.

rates are $45 pp share or $ 60 single. based on a booking of 15-30 people they have 10 rooms of various layout,
bike lock up in the beer garden after 9pm.

I can recommend the Carcoar pub as a great place to stay. Rooms and beds are better than your average pub and the food is MUCH better than a lot of restaurants in Sydney. Carcoar is about 40km south of Bathurst, only another 10km past of Blayney.

Well this is becoming a meet before the meet. Can we do a bulk book of the pub at Carcoar for the Friday night, have a sleep in and then go to Tottenham. Or

Actually do something in carcoar. See a local sight as suggested in the Narrandera thread then head to Tottenham.

Probably no good or acceptable reason we cannot all meet at Carcoar for a private celebration.
Bit of cake and blow out the candles.

Surely enough time to organise this.

Is the pub dog friendly?

The pub has a dog, he's outside out the back. Don't know about dogs in the rooms, but there is tons of space for camping behind the pub (they play cricket there sometimes)

Just off the track after one helluva good ride. 60kph the whole way and I could not have been happier. THE premier track in Australia. I last drove around it in 1985. Took over 6 minutes. Track record is 2m 8sec in a V8.
I am sure that track is made of chocolate cause I had half a bar the whole way round.
