Hi y'all,
I am experiencing some trouble with a stiff throttle, that has virtually no snapback. I am almost brand new to the cycling world, and therefore do not have many maintenance skills to boast of yet. Any starting points on dealing with this issue?
Thanks much

have a look at the under side of the brake lever

you might find a throttle restrictor there ,,,it simply adds restriction to the throttle assembly grip section .....just unwind it ?

hope that helps

What model K bike do you own? Best to include that vital piece of info in your profile.

Did this occur suddenly? Has any maintenance been done to it recently? Did someone recently change the air filter and possibly move the cable's route under there whilst replacing the airbox halves, causing it to bind? Perhaps the throttle tube and bar end weight are too close together. Has the bike taken a tumble lately? If the cable is old it could be fraying, or in need of lube - but use only dri-slide and sparingly. Where do we begin?

Tell us more. Cheers.

Haha sorry, yeah, I need to update the profile. I have a 1985 K100 standard. The throttle has been stiff as long as I have had it (about three months). Ironically though, I did just take a tumble, but it was stiff before hand. I have not checked whether the cable has been bound or whether there is a restrictor, so I'll check it out and report back.

Check that the grip is not binding with the switch housing if the grip is pushed on too far it binds there or the barend weight can bind the outer end and the throttle lock where charlie suggested. Its down under the brake lever about 5/8 chrome know that you screw in to make the throttle stay in place.

Sometimes on my 1100, the foam pads down by the throttle linkage at the rail move and stop the throttle working properly and can give a stiff feeling ( Embarassed ) to the throttle. Happened on the way to our last Irish meet.

Ok done. Took it apart and cleaned up all the gummed up grease washed it out with Lanox and then re greased everything and it doesn't stick anymore.

I set the cable in the catch, then laid out the chain till there was no
slack, turned the throttle till the start of the gears in the bevel were
just past center, so it doesn't run out of clogs on rotation and put it all back together with a touch of grease.

Question though, full throttle rotation is only about a 1/3 - 1/4 of a turn? Can anyone please confirm this? Cheers!

Great timing...mine is also hard to turn, so I'll be doing the same.
