I've only had the K75s (1987) for 3 days and am refurbing it..Tonight I noticed a Plug covered by a nice springy cap that sits flush on the cover.
It's located on the cover for the coils at the top..
Lifting the cap, Inside is a round tubular brass looking connector that I'm not familiar with.
I haven't taken the cap off yet to see the back..

Any idea what this is?? Question

My guess is a power outlet.

They are a strange little device I think used for 24 volt applications as well as our 12v system.
And welcome Cbluez

Yup. That's what it is and very handy it is too.

From powering mobile phone chargers, tyre compressor and plugging-in a battery tender. Knock-up an emergency inspection lamp and carry it with you (handy for looking for dropped keys in the dark if nothing else Wink ).

It's also a handy place to piggy-back power for a SatNav without splicing into the loom (this is my K1 but the principal is the same):

Hmmm...It could be...It has a nicer cap...spring loaded
That's a strange looking male plug, but it sure looks like it's the appropriate unit.

Hey Cbluez, maybe Mike's photo confused you and I should have posted a picture of what it looks like on a normal persons bike.
It's not like I am jealous or anything.
It's just that I am jealous.
The unit is seen on the coil covers
Actually a bit hard to see, but it is hiding behind the frame. Almost.

It's a "merit" type socket and the plug for that is called a "merit" plug...funnily enough.

Yep its a "Merit" or "Hella" type all right, see here.

Same on my K11.
Am using mine to trickle charge battery when bike is not in use.
Most accessories use standard "cigar lighter" plugs so you'll have to buy or make an adaptor to suit.
I am making one of these...

Good luck with it

I just buy them and swap the cigar-lighter type over. The centre connection is positive, the outer is neutral.

I found that over the years time had taken it's toll and there was no 12V waiting to escape.... A dab of solder on the outside soon sorted it out... But they are on the list of parts to replace.

MikeP, It's the first Plymouth bike night of the year down at the Hoe tonight are your going to be down with one of your bikes?

Not my cup of tea I'm afraid. I have the social instincts of a hermit. Strange Plug with Spring cap? 178468 Once asked why I don't take part in "ride outs" I pointed out that if I wished to travel from point A to point B with a lot of other people, I'd go by bus. Wow..thanks Guys,,that is definately the unit...
If I have anymore dumb questions like "where can I get a foot of brake hose" I'll be sure to ask!

Or..where can i get the flat nuts that fell out of the muffler after I took off the guard to paint it?..duh...
