Hi all - has anyone on the list converted the wiring system on an early K110lt ABS1 to the wiring where the ABS checking is delayed until the engine is running? I am finding the battery, after about 6 months is reluctant to start the bike. Thoughts and experiences about the job and views now would be appreciated.

George. Might I suggest that your problem lies elsewhere. I don't think that the ABS is the fault but it may be bad battery earth connection or starter motor problems.

I find that the battery drains at about 1% a day so after 6 months it would need charging before attempting to start. Would recommend the investment in an "intelligent" charger. To keep on top of mine I charge monthly and run the engine until warm.

I am not sure about the K1100 but my ABS was killed by jump starting it. I learnt the expensive (ABS replacement) way about having a well charged battery on my K100.

No - I am just curious - the K1100 ABS 1, has an 18 amp hour battery, but to do the same job, a K75RT with a much smaller engine, is rated as requiring a 30 amp hour battery at nearly double the weight,.to operate what is basically the same system..It cannot be lack of space as the battery tray is the same in both bikes and both have enough space to mount the ABS Brain hehind the battery. Anyone have any suggestions as why the spec quotes 2 batteries ?

From what I know the K1100LT had as standard a 18AH battery and the 30AH as an option and the K75RT a 30 as standard.
I have a 93 K75RT and it has a 30AH as standard although it now has a 18AH (it cost less).
The K75 had an ABS problem and also a battery going flat in about 4 weeks fault. I could find nothing wrong to account for the battery drain and the ABS unit was sent to Tosi Tabuki in Japan to be repaired which mysteriously fixed the battery drain as well. I cant figure out why it fixed the drain problem but it sure did and I was a very happy camper for that.
