Give it a thousand miles and you'll wonder why you didn't switch sooner. This is probably the best site on the Internet dealing w K's and with very knowledgeable and friendly folks. Welcome to our world.

The good news is, I no longer have senior moments. The bad news is, now it's a constant state of mind.

I do believe you are correct ! As soon as I get a right side cover and bag, I can register it as vintage and my plate/insurance drops to 100 bucks a year! Now that's cheap riding !!

Yup it gets cheap when you register as 'collector'. They are very picky though. I've put two K's through the collector process as well as a Yamaha and Ford so am getting pretty good at predicting what they want. When running collector plates I keep it insured year round, since it's so cheap. That way if there is a nice day or two during the off season I can still ride. However, where you live, when the season is over, its' OVER. So a half year's insurance would make sense there.
