I have a sticky throttle and in searches they all use lanox to flush the old grease.

What do we use down under?

Now, I'm feeling really behind the 8 ball.....I had to go Google Lanox to see what it is......never heard mention of it, but now, I'm well informed. Thanks for that.
On the other hand.......the term "sticky throttle" always raises the hairs up on the back of my neck.
I'm curious, therefore as to what's sticky in the throttle that could be corrected with a lubricant? other than perhaps the twist grip/pinion gear-chain assy?
If it's there,....... there's a possibility that either:
#1 there's a badly worn area of teeth in the gears or
#2 there may be a need for the upgraded gear and lid that goes on top of the gear
#3 the "drag screw" on the underside front of the throttle handle body is set to hold the throttle where you put it.
I'm not assuming the rider is unaware, however we have found members that overlooked it. Just trying to be helpful & cover all the bases.
Other that the grease in the handle & gear/chain mechanism is the only place in the throttle system I can think of that gets any lube. Never lube the cable where it slides in its jacket,
I'd be curious to know more about exactly what is sticking?
Regards, ibj...

Lanox has lanolin as an ingredient. It's also related to Inox. :-)
They are both good products: better than WD40 and RP7 etc in my opinion.

The throttle assembly can get sticky because it can let moisture into the twist-grip assembly. It doesn't do any harm to disassemble it periodically and clean the teeth etc and re-lubricate it with something like...say...Lanox.

And Thanks, Saxon.
I suppose lanolin based products would be popular especially in countries that sheep is a big(ger) business than it is stateside. I did look it up on google also.
One concern I had was to just mention my ideas about the advisability of doing the "right thing" when it comes to a proper & thorough evaluation of a "sticky" throttle. I'd hate to hear of someone who tried to "oil" away a decomposing throttle cable problem only to meet with an oak tree the following week in the twisties.
Regards, ibj.....
PS: One thing also that I'd like to see more of here in the forum is encouraging those with great questions comments & stories to come back & post a "Solved" thread so that the rest of us could learn more about what caused the failure.

This area.(circled) can get a bit messy and I think should be cleaned and lubricated on a regular (6 month-yearly) basis

I agree.....Been there.......mine had a particularly hard spot around the freeway cruise speed area.....I found that it needed new gears and the upgraded cover.
I think we will find that the original poster will be well informed about it thanks to your great post!

Having just cleaned-up a slow-return throttle on the weekend, I had to clean all of the old grease out of the chain pully thingo, take the twist grip of the handlebar, cleaned the twist grip tube and handlebar and cleaned/degreased everything.

Reassembled the lot using silicon spray instead of grease. Trimmed the grips, so there was no interference and now the throttle snaps back.

My 2 cents worth.

Cheers Guys. I don't now what the problem is yet, it's just another thing on the list Rolling Eyes I did pop the cover off and it is full to bursting with grease, I think I see it coming out between the hand grip and the control cluster. The yoke is off just now awaiting new bearings so the throttle is a job to do when it's back together Smile

read my mind blakey

probably graphite in the twist grip to handlebar interface ....as long as you never ever lubricate it with oily substances ever again

i used that "super gell" teflon based (non rancid going , stable in all conditions ) in the gear pack around the cable- chain puller (verry lightly ) been good for over 2 years now

sometimes it just pays to be sensible huh ?!!!

I see I need to go back in to my twist grip, I have the gears & chain all nicely lubed with a graphite grease, but I also have grease between the metal handlebar and the inside of the twist grip tube. as well as all over the inside end of the outer part of the tube adjacent to the gear.
I'm guessing, I need to put up the twist grip tube completely clean and dry save for some dry graphite flakes and clean off the area of the outer edge of the tube just outboard of the gear. I further suppose that my drag screw under the handle area will do a much better job of holding the throttle open if it's not pushing against grease? It works pretty well now, but no matter how tight I screw it in.....it slowly fades slower if left un-attended on road.
I'll get right on that as soon as you guys verify that's correct?

I have never had a problem with grease on the bar and tube but I only use a smear rather than pack it. Graphite would work well or as BlaKey was saying a silicone spray.
