Hi guys hope someone out there can help. Ive just fitted a hrd sidecar to my 16 100rs. It has a staintune exhaust and the problem I have is the header pipes on the back 2 cylinders are not clearing the subframe. Anyone fitted one of these chairs ? Any problems with the header pipe clearence ?

Not sure I bought it off a guy from newcastle its a hrd grand rally double and I bought a mounting kit from highway sidecars in sa. The kit was great. Fit perfectly except for the exhaust headers. I flattened the pipes a little and it gave me enough clearence to get them on but they havnt sealed and the bikes poping and farting on overrun

how long ago did you pick it up Pete, have you had a chance to colour match it yet?
Al might have some suggestions for you also, you will notice he has a HRD fitted to an RS , not sure if it is an 8 or 16 though.
does anyone know if this makes a difference, are the pipes the same?

I did fit a HRD subframe to a 16v RS years ago. There was a clearance problem even with the standard exhaust. I heated the subframe in the appropriate place and 'recessed' it by using an extension bar with appropriate sized socket for the diameter needed. Heat the frame, locate the socket in the right place and hit the socket with FBH till the recess was deep enough.

Otherwise an 8valve exhaust will clear as it has no bendy pipes.

Al

I can see why you say that. It's a bit of a hybrid really, HRD 1 and a half body on a Leigh Hollamby sidecar chassis. It was originally a HRD when I first bought it but the HRD subframe and HRD chassis have since gone to another home. I kept the body as its look suits the RS nicely.
The Leigh Hollamby chassis/subframe is a very strong rigid setup that handles very well. It came along at the right time.

Al
PS Grover its an 8v but will soon have an 1100 16v sitting in it.

I picked up a stock exhaust from an 8 valve and used the header pipes of the last two cylinders. They were the two that were fouling on the subframe. I was able to keep my staintune muffler and no exhaust leaks. Very happy man I am. Thanks again for the great advice.

When you reply, click on " host an image" icon in the top row, then press "browse" when your pic loads, highlight the middle row of url then right click and 'copy', then past it to the reply screen and then press upload so that it saves to the account...which you have to create...lol..yes...there's that bit too...won't take long! Alles klar?

if you are using a phone camera( 2-3mp) or low mp camera , photos will upload reasonably fast, if on the other hand you are running high mp ( 10mp or more ) , expect a wait during upload, put the kettle on . vids take longer.
but once they are in there , everyone will enjoy ,we look forward to further pics.
