Had a great arvo on the bike with my son and rode a whole tank away, 2 minutes from my house I decide to fill up and turned into the local gas station. Here is where I got careless, filling the tank I got distracted and the nozzle came up to just inside the lip and of course the fuel went everywhere, I mean everywhere. SH!T

My son got me heaps of paper wipes and we started wiping and I noticed that the windshield foil where the screws attach it to the windshield was all shattered! The plastic nut on the ends of the foil also cracked off. I cant believe that contact with petrol would cause so much damage. The windshield is also now fogged so heaps of polishing with Brasso to do Sad

yes mate ....but none like the original beauty

look at motobins and all the usuall suspects .....

the cracks might not be so bad ...maybe you could quarterize the holes with a soldering iron and retouch up the finish of them to stop further cracking ?

I am thinking of running super high viscosity superglue into the cracks. They will hold the lot together but arghhhhhhh! sob, sob, sob!

Are you certain that the cracking occurred when the fuel contacted the windscreen? Or had these cracks already been there and you just came to notice them because of the accident with the fuel? I also cannot imagine that fleeting contact with petrol would cause this damage. The windscreen should be a high impact plastic, and consequently be resistant to chemicals commonly found around vehicles. It is possible that exposure to UV light over a long period coupled with stress from use caused the cracking. In any case, you'll either have to replace the windscreen or find a way of stopping the cracks from propagating. I don't believe oversized washers to spread the clamping load of the mounting screws is a long term fix. Neither am I convinced that the superglue will have enough strength to hold given the environment in which it has to live. Eventually the cracks will propagate, the same way an automobile windshield crack caused by stone hit continues to grow.

Absolutely sure as 10 min before it happened, we stopped at the golden arches for ice cream and my son asked why were there two plastic screws and 2 metal screws and it was fine then, I wonder if it has something to do with the change in temperature when the petrol hit it.

Maybe the cracks were already filled with some wonder crack fixer and it came out with some fuel application.

Just a thought. Would a windscreen repair company be able to help. There are a load of firms in UK that advertise repairing glass screens with a sort of resin, would it also work on bike screens.
Maybe worth a look

fuel usually has a very low temp, quite noticeable after filling up, you get cold on the thighs.
does this also apply to plastics, causing existing minor cracks to rapidly contract, thus resulting in a disaster such as Al's.

Tackler, best send them an email to add us to their discount list.

Also found this info on the front of my RT screen. Slipscreens 02 9624 3737.

Looks like it might be a boat screen manufacturer in Seven Hills.

Every time I see that (police) bike I get chills up my spine. It's the ultimate RT road bike. Can't outrun it or outmaneuver it. It just says, "Gotcha!"*

*Exception, Bourne Identity movie and the Paris police bike-car chase scene.
