One of the prior owners of my k100rs pulled out the vents located under the grips in the black rubber fairing inserts (the piece that spans the outer fairing and the tank/motor). He replaced them with sewn nylon material storage pockets, obviously custom made. The pockets attach to the lip of the opening with velcro strips glued around the perimeter, and each pocket has a heavy cloth cover that is likewise attached to the top of the pocket with velcro on all 4 sides. Some of the glue attaching the velcro strips to the rubber is failing.

The storage area is perfect for gloves, tire pressure gauge, earplugs, doodads and whatnots, and I was wondering if there were any other solutions to put in an actual box with a hinged latching lid? BMW parts diagrams show the vent only, & I've looked at RT and LT fairings, but the openings look quite a bit larger on those bigger fairings. Anyone else using these areas for storage on their RS? If there's nothing else out there, I'll likely just remove the old strips/glue and attach new strips with some 3M adhesive tape.

That is quite a good idea and I don't know of anything that would be any better. I have never seen or heard of anything either factory or aftermarket that would do the job.

It's not even that these pockets don't work well - they're just aging and look a bit shabby, like an oil-stained tank top on Cindy Crawford...wait, that's actually pretty sexy.

I have the LT with the storage pockets there and have sometimes wondered why the RS didn't have a similar thing, it gives good extra storage without taking up any more space.
Having seen those I would have something similar if I got an RS.
Cindy Crawford with an oil stained sack would look good.
