Permanently mounted the Garmin Nuvi 550 on the bike this weekend. On the bike's wiring harness under the tank I pulled the two pins from the heated handlebar grips connector and used those to soldier the Garmin wiring harness. The full harness and transformer all fit neatly under the tank.

The system automatically comes on when the bike starts and shuts down once the bike is shut down.
