My throttle cable needed replacing on my 85 K100. I'm guessing it had the original cable (3273 1 450 218 9). The local dealer said the number wasn't a good one so he looked the part up by application and I got a 3 73 1 457 016 and went about taking the old one out to replace it. When removed the new cable obviously would not work so I made a trip back to the dealer. From what he could determine and what I've read since there was a recall at some point. Any way he ordered me 4 parts (1) a 13541461136 bracket (2) a 32731457017 bushing (3) a 32731457101 bolt and (4) a 32731236644 nut. The bracket was easy to figure out what to do. The other numbers make up an adjustment at the grip. I'm struggling to get the item installed correctly and the drawing he provided me doesn't help me much. Has anyone gone through this? I can't seem to determine the correct function of the nut.

The only nut I can think of is used as a locknut on the adjustment at the switch block/mastercylinder assembly. The original cable had the adjuster midway in the cable.  Those old cables were subject a recall and were supplied and fitted free for about 10 years but that expired some time ago.

Same bike, same problem. Got it mostly sorted but seem to have a lot of slack at the throttle end where the adjuster is. I can't get it tightened up enough. Been riding lots anyway, just annoying.

i notice the same ,,,even thought that 1 link out of the throttle chain to cable might help with the slack takeup

but perhaps there is a slight difference in the toothed gear connecting the throttle grip to the cable ????   i wonder if anyone has changed that for a new part and seen any difference ????

just found this on the motobins site

might help

Exactly Charlie, my chain seems to have too much play in it as well. Might have to give it a go.

did anyone have to do a slight alteration of the hole where the adjuster fits in to the grip? When I try to place the adjuster in to the grip where it will lock in place the top will not slide down enough to allow the hole to align for the bolt to start.

Sorry mate, I didn't have that trouble, but had a lot of trouble getting the chain to stay put whilst I tried to get the cap and master cylinder back on. Ended up calling in a mate to hold everything.
Hope you figure it out.

Yes I have lined up the marks correctly, just seem to have extra chain length to fold around in there, and adjusting the slack seems to do nothing. Anyway, hi jacked this one enough I think.
Cheers.

Thanks to all you fine folks for your responses. It's back together and working so far. The new cable didn't fix one issue I thought it might. I've had this bike since 2000 and the throttle has never gone back to idle if released unless you rolled it back yourself. It's fine out on the highway as it's instant cruise control but this is the only bike I've ever had that when the throttle was released wouldn't roll back on its on.

Make sure the grip isn't binding on the switch block. If the grip gets pushed too far onto the throttle tube it will bind.
