doing a damn fine job there Ghost, really like the polished edges on the rims , and as mentioned , need to contrast it with rubber and rotors in place.
and as you say the battery space can look clean when empty , but you do lose ballast. fill it with a secondary reserve tank for long trips.

Progress has been good at the shed with a view despite multiple days of 40 degrees plus.

Only 30 ish today so on with the TBs and injectors. My local parts suppliers extroardinaire

(Car Parts Plus, Lonsdale SA) had this for $25.

And now for something completely different. - Page 2 2014-010

Filters o rings pintle caps. Are they any good? I'll let you Know.

I have been to this shop 6 times now and every time they supplied the goods requested, at a good price.

Hope you don't mind me plugging excellent service.

So the motor goes back together now after a good clean and soon the frame will be back on etc.

I am not so photo oriented as the Gurus here and wish I was because those guys give me the confidence

to tackle the whole bike , Thanks team K.

onya gordo !

my injector rubbers were really soft when I pulled them the other day ,,,,after maybe less than 2 years installed

one kinda bit the dust on returning them to the seated position
maybe I should recommend cleaning up the housing before fitting up ? and go easy on fitting them all back in .??

Cam and crank covers are easy to smarten up later. I want to ride this baby soon so minor cosmetic issues
can wait. Everything else has cleaned up really well for a 27 yo machine, unknown mileage, plenum/airfilter
for instance required just a wipe and wash in soapy water.
Some of the more radical mods mentioned above, underseat tank etc. will be put on hold as a stage 2 plan.
Still looking at tyres, the distanza mentioned by AL is actually a rear fitment. Anyone know of a dual purpose
front in 18"?

Ghosty, the Pirelli Scorpian Trail is listed on their websites in a 100/90 18 front and 140/80 17 rear. Haven't seen one in the flesh but intend to try them on my K75 if available in Oz.

Thanks Gaz80, they look nice.

Anyone know if it would be ok to fit the 100/90 18 onto a k1100 front wheel, which is 110/80-VR 18 stock??

It will fit on the wheel but if it's a K1100LT front end then it will probably rub on the fork brace. You may need to shim that up a bit with some extra washers.

I was aware of that, sorry I didn't mention it. With my sidecar addiction I've often been in the habit of fitting rears on the front if it gives me what I'me looking for; most commonly a Metzeler Enduro 2 4.00-18 rear fitted to the front so I'd have some stopping power on loose surfaces when I was running an 18" front.

18" front enduro or dual purpose tyres will be very hard to find as most dirty bikes you'll find run either a 21" or 19" front.  18" rears on the other hand are fairly common.

I was looking at this as an option.  Has anyone done it and if so how is it done?

I regularly travel a 165 mile motorway run and allowing the K its head the fuel level drops low enough at the end to cause unease. I would love to fit a tank in the battery space as it seems a good 5-6 litres would fit. Lining it into the fuel system is not easy though as the fuel system is already pressurised. I had a similar problem with my CB500-4 years back but that was solved by fitting a bigger fuel tank.

The tank is not pressurized.  Many people have added aux tanks on the rear with an extra pipe into the tank and a gravity feed. Since the battery compartment is too low for that you could add a small fuel pump to get the fuel up into the main tank.

Guys, the Pirelli Scorpion Trail tyres are here for the K75. Before I put the front wheel back in I thought I'd measure the radius of the mounted 100/90x18 if you want to check the clearance on other bikes.

I've added the photos below and eyeballing the tape it looks like about 324mm.

Thanks Gaz for the Pirelli info and images, where did you get them? and price please as a guide for me.

Looking at the tread on those I wonder if there is much advantage over a normal road tyre?

I know they are typical for the big dual purpose bikes but they don't appear much chunkier.

I would guess at them being still 80% tarmac and 20% dirt. Opinions please.

EDIT Just been on the Pirelli site(s) and the above Q is answered, It's a road tyre primarily. Ignore the above,
        thinking aloud I was.

I have thought of this but what I mean was the fuel lines are pressurised so its not so easy. Fitting a pump from the underseat tank isn't a problem, but how do you get the supply into the main tank? It looks to me one must make a new connection into the original tank as in make a new spigot connection with a one way or non return valve. This would suggest a fill point is also required under the seat. A more drastic option is to relocate the fuel pump to the tank under the seat and seal this tank so it vents up into the original tank. An access panel in the tank would allow servicing of the pump and filter.
None of the options seem too simple. I wonder how did Jaguar do it with the twin fuel tanks? Did they pump from one to the other? My Dad had one and I don't remember them doing that because the changeover from one to t =he other was manual and instantaneous.

seems pretty simple to me
use the tank breather (that exits the bottom of the tank ) in a 6mm fitting

a good idea would be to put a tap - 2 way direction device close handy to either allow breathing ...or when required pumping fuel into the tank

that breather ties in abut the top of the filter basket ....no not the other one that drains water- grunge collection from the filler cap area ...

just my weird ideas ...

yes ?

I thought of using the breather but two things, one is that then there is no breather and therefore no vent...vacuum lock plus it will take forever for petrol to run down into the underseat tank unless it has a separate vent which will have to be higher than the fill point. The second thing is that the diameter will mean I need a fill point under the seat, which I prefer not to do because it means pulling out everything ever time it is refuelled.

Maybe combine both, pump through a non return valve to the return line AND use the tank breather. But if I do this how do I get petrol to flow down to the underseat tank - it would need one connection to be at the bottom of the main tank, ie the breather line. Is it feasible to alter the pick up point for the fuel pump by extending the pick up line down into the underseat tank?

Anyway I wont pursue this any more in this post, feels like its hijacking it. I will experiment with some shapes first and see what I can do. I think the best bet will be to make up a stainless steel one on a rubber mounting on the original battery tray and using the battery hold down clamps. Make it in plastic first and when its right get it made up in stainless steel.

In the case of an auxillary tank, fit it with a manual pump plumbed to the return line, via one way valve
as mentioned above. Top up main tank when engine is off. No changes to standard which as we know
functions very well. Those who are techno inclined or lazy would use an electric pump.

There are not many places in the world now where extra capacity is needed and for those places that do,
I would carry a 5 litre (or 2) plastic jerrycan which could be empty probably 90% of the time. Bulky tho' and
a bit ugly.

My ideal is the 25 litre underseat tank, right side filler high just behind the rider. False tank has electrics
for easy access and light items typically needed in a hurry. Both of these mods reflect current "Adventure bike"
practice. On dirt it's good to have all that weight low when things get hairy 'cos the often do.

For the one I have there's a simple on-off tap on the line exiting the aux tank - gravity does the rest.

Thanks for all the input and comments I appreciate and learn stuff from them all.

As of yesterday this project has come to a screaming Halt.

I am back in Tasmania (flew) and borrowed my son's ZX9R '98 model to do the last 100kms.

I have pulled the pin on Caring for my elderly parents after 18 months, I will never reach their expectations

and don't intend to try anymore. This has been one of the hardest gigs I have tried but i am comfortable saying

I failed.

The Kwaka is awesome in so many ways, once I pumped the tyres up! Scared the you Know what outta me

on one corner! Can't imagine having to explain to my son how I totalled his roadbike! All good now and exploring

the region 8000rpm to redline (12000). Can someone remind me why we dote on K's? Oh yeah, shaft drive

and....? Oh yeah, cheap as chips.

I'm gunna open up the Tassie Meet thread, look for it. Forth Blues Festival is the weekend March 15,

I won't be on a K , hang on, yes I will! Come on down and meet Bushy, Dennis and a couple of other guys

who lurk here. this Island will entrance you with its' made for motorcycling roads.

Floyd, the Scorpion Trails on the K75 went well last weekend (see Nindigully ride). Over the last two weekends I've put about 2400 kms on them, only bitumen so far, and they feel good in wet and dry.

Cheers

Some information in the EXIF data that accompanies the photo (date, time, f-settings, etc.) indicates the orientation.  Maybe photo editing software does not update this info when the photo is manipulated, and the hosting site uses it to correctly orient the picture when displayed.  Don't know how to fix that other than copy-paste onto a new canvas.

I never experienced this problem. I rotate the picture on the computer, save the rotated picture and upload it.
The posted picture is always what I uploaded... Here is an example:

Thanks for the tyre update.

I have found in the past that if you use a camera that automatically detects the orientation, then that property is not carried over into the forum.

I use GIMP which is a free image manipulation tool. I bring the photo into GIMP, resize it for the forum, change its orientation, sometimes adjust the colors/contrast, crop if needed, then spit it out as a jpeg for the forum. entire process takes about 40 seconds and a few mouse clicks.

I followed Gaz through some heavy rain and the scorpion tyres pump water out better than anthing else I have seen.

I've found a good online image manipulation tool.  It's called Pixlr Editor, got to www.pixlr.com to find it.
You can upload images, do all your editting and then save them back to your own computer or you can set up a pixlr account and store them there on the cloud.

Most of the time I use Photoshop but only cause its affordable to me with a deal from my employer.  I couldnt pay full freight for it either.

Floyd, Thanks for the hint about Gimp. I have it on my Linux & Mac systems and am reasonably familiar with it so I will experiment with it.

Al, not sure if there is a port to Windows for Gimp but many people believe it is as capable as Photoshop and is open source, i.e. free.

Waz,  thanks for the feedback on the view from behind me in the heavy rain. It pretty much felt the same as in the dry.

Cheers

I have Photoshop CS6 Extended, Paint Shop Pro and Gimp and prefer to use Paint Shop Pro as it just feels right to me.  All 3 are good but Photoshop is very difficult to work with, unintuitive and all round awkward and Gimp I feel like it was from Fisher Price and don't like the look of the work space but it is easy to use and a good editor.
Jasc owned Paint Shop Pro then sold it to Corel who have stuffed around with it and tried to make it work in with Corel Draw and in doing so have made a lot of changes that were totally unnecessary.

Yesterday, one of my tech showed me a nice feature on the Samsung S5 phone.
When taking pictures, you can select to take an animated Gif picture. This can be good for an avatar.
Here is a quick test. This is cool!

I'm ashamed to say it has been about 3 years getting a round to it and I was on for a ride of the "old girl"

however the intake rubbers had hardened (even more) and were impossible to fit and the air filter tubes

were crap since 1974, but survived till now, 220,000 km.

So had to slum it on this
