Hello, I noticed few leaks from underside tank, pump area. I red few threads about epoxy reapir, but I ll prefer welding. Did anyone try, is it complicated, is it better solution?

I know quite a few who hwve used epoxy and all are still holding. The first I did was 8 years ago and still good.

X2 on Rick's comments Nino , I used the Loctite version of the epoxy putty on my tank over a dozen years ago , still fuel tight , no problems

Thanks, I cant find Permatex or that type of Loctite here. I bought some kind of epoxy, will see if is suitable. Inside or outside use? Or both?

G'day Nino , with the Loctite product that I used I applied it from the outside pressing it into the cleaned up and enlarged hole as per the instructions , not sure what you have but follow the manufacturers advice .

I used JB weld epoxy, about 8 or 10 years ago, and I've not had any problem since. I put a stainless self tapping screw, coated in epoxy, in the hole. It worked OK for me. That is on the outfit.

On the solo, I opened the inevitable hole up to 6mm and used a 6mm nut and bolt with fibre washers coated with jointing compound.

I have had to use epoxy putty a couple of times and it seems to work fine. But over the weekend I've discovered another leak in the same area as the last repair.
Don't know yet if the repair has failed or if it's a new one until I remove the tank.
Starting to think it might be worthwhile using two part tank sealant on the inside of the tank.
My tank is now 30 years old and this could become a regular thing now. Good 2nd hand tanks are going to become rarer and this sounds like prevention rather than cure.
Sealant kits seem to be about £20.

Comberjohn, if you find two part sealant please send the brand of it.

If I do go ahead with the sealant, I'll probably order Petseal from Motorworks. Costs just under £20.
Unfortunately, they say that they don't post overseas. I'm sure that it's available to you locally as many old bike and car restorers would use something similar to seal an old tank.
Remember to remove the pump and anything else that might get coated unintentionally.

Yes, but in Petseal description on Motorworks they say "for steel tank". Is it the suitable for aluminum tank?

I would guess that it is ok for aluminium as it's in the K brick section and they all had aluminium tanks.
The only type of tank they don't recommend is plastic or glass fibre.
I see plenty of Petseal suppliers on eBay and they don't seem to have any problem about posting to Europe.

Not sure if it is available overseas, but this stuff works great on my leak.  And I tried other products first.  I found it at NAPA, again not sure about overseas.  Buy two packs thou as it sets up super fast and you will not get everything in place within the tank soon enough. 

I found dealer of Permatex in Croatia, finally. Its probably much easier than ordering chemicals from abroad.
