Ryco Z418 cross references to a Wix 51348, which is a substitute for the BMW filter.  Since the Z418 doesn't cross reference to the BMW part number, it would be a good idea to compare the specs of the Ryco to those of the BMW recommended part.

I have been using Z418 for years. I think that when I checked them out there was something like 2-3lb difference on the bypass valve opening but which way I now don't remember.

Every time I get within 200yards of a BMW dealer I can feel my wallet getting lighter

I cant quote you the number, but we've been using an early BMW 318i OEM oil filter for years (on the various Ks, R1100s and R1150s).  About a 1/4 of the price of the bike filter and the same tools fits etc.  Never had a problem with them.

Z418 filters are just over $13 at Supercheap today.
Add 4 litres of dino oil for $14 and that's one cheap oil/filter change Smile

I bought 2 of each for the R and K bikes.

I was flagged with this one too. The filter is also the same as used in some other cars. I was changing car and bike filters one day and did a comparison, physically identical!!

I have a friend who was often calling my bike a Bavarian money waster until the ABS on his 13 month old FJR1300 Jamjar dropped its bundle and it cost him about $2500 to fix and Didn't I give him heaps about that.

One thing I like to do is ask them to go and get some handlebar switches for a 30 year old Honda and watch the reaction when they find out that we can still buy new switches for the "Bavarian Money Wasters" and at a lot less than a new Honda would have cost when you could still get it about 20 years ago as NOS.

The thing is a 20 - 30 year old K will drop[ some expensive bits but a lot cheaper than newer bikes, like that ABS at $2500.......Give me a K any day!! But you will never find me on a new BMW. Ever.
