Hello all, I have recently acquired a 91 BMW K100LT which I have just discovered is ex Police. I have been riding bikes for aver 40 years and have owned many various bikes, from Cyclemasters to 1000cc Jap sports bikesand enjoy them all.

Welcome aboard, you sound like you could teach us all a few things.
Police bikes tend to get ridden hard, but they were always serviced regularly.
Enjoy the madhouse.

Hi Bill welcome to the funny farm.  You will get used to all the inmates here including me.
With a K100RT you will enjoy the ride no matter what the sky throws at you.

Welcome Bill,

Good to see another LT in Somerset. I'm only a short way up the road from you and there seems to be a growing number of active members in the South West....perhaps a clan gathering is in order soon.

Enjoy your new bike - it may feel different to your previous bikes at first, but don't be deterred -  but check your tyres first if the handling feels sloppier than expected as old rubber is a common problem and easily fixed. Anything else, well, you've come to the right place!

Hi Bill

Welcome to the forum too. My LT was ex police and while it was well worn seems to have been maintained well enough. Pauls advice re tyres is spot on. Everyone is very helpful here, any problem you meet chances are someone has been there before you.

You guys have some really nice routes in your area and I have travelled quite a few of them but not on a bike. Yet.

Definitely a case for an occasional meet up and a coffee or brunch. What has really worked for us was to find a location for a breakfast that was reasonably central timewise, good breakfast and petrol station near, gave time for chat and then a nice run to some place of interest using a scenic route.
