Anyone have experience with using an EZpass (toll road) transponder on the back side of the windshield? I'd like to be able to attach it via the hook&loop tape provided with the unit, but I don't know if the signal will pass through the black (plastic? Plexiglass?) shield.

Also, how are others cleaning that shield? I used a vinyl protectant called black magic which gave it a shiny new appearance until I rode through a rain squall. I'd like to use a polish/wax to bring it back and protect it, but don't want to scratch or mar it.

Good grief, I thought I was getting a beater bike and now look at at me.

As far as I know EZpass transponders work off radio signals so the colour of your screen should not affect their use

You can a heap of different things to make the plastic look good. Car detailers use it but like you said one shower of rain and it gone. I have never found anything that is long lasting.
I use PLEXUS in a spray can but need to redo every day when riding. Mr Sheen furniture polish works well but once again only short term.

I just used "rain x" product on both sides, about 200 miles,  5 days ago. It took all the little scuffs out. Plastic looks like glass now. My experience on my car windshield is the coating lasts about 30 days. I use it there only when doing long trips. Greatly reduces wiper usage/driver fatigue if you get caught in hours of rain. Anxiously awaiting my ezpass transponder. Plan to mount on windshield too.

Careful with Rain X. I believe it has some petroleum product or something that is not kind to plastic over long use.  I was told never use it on a visor or fairing screen.

I carried Mr Sheen in the topbox all the time, cleaned my face shield with it allways, sometimes at each stop, used soap on the inside in winter, just soap it up let it dry alittle and clean it off with a tissue, the face shield is so clase to your face that the shine isnt noticed, cuts down on fogging a fair bit. Mr Sheen on the windshield was great when bugs etc were dry i'd soak em in mr Sheen and place a tissue over it and wait 1/2 an hour then clean it all off sweet as.

Thanks Dave. Went to their website and they clearly state Rain-X is not for Motorcycle windshields. Won't be doing that again.

EZ pass transponder readers at the toll booths are mounted above the lane.  The units like a clear view the best.  However they may still register OK ion the back of your dark screen.  Some states also have a camera system that records the license plate so if the EZ Pass doesn't register they still can process the charge or send a ticket.

As you already know, go slow the first couple times to ensure it registers and stay to the sides of the lane and not dead center due to the oil build up.

I heartily endorse and use Muc Off products, the Visor cleaner works great on my visor, phone screen plasma TV screen laptop screen etc. Also their Anti Fog works for about 7 days per application as well.

Their bike cleaning products are also very good.

I don't work for them or sell their products.
