Changing the Oil and Filter on my K100RS and noticed an Oil Filter bolt had metal all through the thread on further inspection the bolt hole was well and truly stripped.

Should I Helicoil or just tap the next size up?

ouch .....!

sad to hear clive

helicoil sounds the right methodology to me ...as you would need to also over drill the cover plate other wise

cheers

Helicoil.

Before you drill to the appropriate size, try and run the helicoil tap in the hole first, to see if the thread that came out made a large enough hole.  If not, then drill and helicoil.

I hope you have an air drill and not an electric one.  It makes the job sooooo much easier.

If it was my bike, then I would be draining the oil again before proceeding.

Dave.

Taking the sump off sure makes it easy. Better than standing on your head.

Ah Rick.  Trying to do things the hard way scratch

I would be lazy, open a beer, lay down a cushion and lie on my back.  Oil Filter Cover Bolt Stripped 652573
